IPL 2022 winners Gujarat Titans have signed up Afghanistan allrounder Azmatullah Omarzai for the next season of the league. The Afghan star earned his maiden IPL contract.
He had registered himself at a base price of Rs 50 lakhs and with no other team showing any interest, Gujarat Titans secured his services at his base price. Gujarat are looking to replace their former captain Hardik Pandya and will be hoping that their latest recruit helps them fill the huge void. Last month, Pandya had sealed a sensational deal with Mumbai Indians.
While Azmatullah Omarzai might not make as big an impact as Pandya, he does have the ability to change the course of a game with both bat and ball. Azmatullah Omarzai played a key role in Afghanistan’s brilliant run in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
The allrounder scored an impressive 353 runs with the help of three half-centuries in addition to picking up seven wickets as Afghanistan defeated the likes of England and Pakistan in the tournament. His impressive displays caught the attention of not only the fans but also the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
The former India batsman compared his wrist position while bowling with Praveen Kumar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and stated that it helps him swing the ball both ways. The 23-year-old all-rounder is yet to play in the IPL although he has ample T20 experience. So far, he has played 62 T20s and has scored 588 runs in addition to picking up 59 wickets.
Looking at Azmatullah’s wrist position, which I feel is very good, reminded me of @praveenkumar and @BhuviOfficial.
It allows him to swing the ball both ways and in such conditions it could prove to be useful.@ACBofficials#ENGvAFG— Sachin Tendulkar (@sachin_rt) October 15, 2023
