Babar Azam furious with himself after return to form in SA Tests; Here's why

Pakistan National Cricket Team batter Babar Azam opened up about his innings in the second innings of the ongoing second Test against South Africa National Cricket Team. He said that he is extremely disappointed with the way he got out as he couldn't finish well after the start.

Babar Azam was the shining light with the bat for the Pakistan National Cricket Team in the ongoing second Test against the South Africa National Cricket Team at the Newlands in Cape Town. The premier batter looked solid with the bat in both the innings of the game and played impactful knocks.

Babar was the lone warrior for his team in the first innings as he slammed a vital half-century but his effort wasn't enough. He was removed by Kwena Maphaka as he was caught down the leg side, and after his wicket, the Pakistan National Cricket Team got all out for 194 runs and were enforced a follow-on.

Babar, in the second innings, looked extremely pleasing to eyes. The premier batter didn't put a foot wrong in his innings and played a solid innings for his team. He slammed his second consecutive half-century of the match and added 205 runs opening partnership with skipper Shan Masood (102*).

Babar Azam was looking all set for a big ton but a lapse in concentration saw him getting out during the fag end of the day. The batter went for a big drive to the ball that was well outside off and was caught in the gully region. He scored 81 runs off 124 balls and also hit 10 fours in his innings.

Babar Azam expressed his disappointment with the way he got out in both the innings. He stressed the need to score big when the batter is settled and said that he was very upset when he got out as only 15 minutes were left in the day's play.

He also talked about the conditions at the Newlands in Cape Town, saying that they are different from Centurion, and once the player is settled, it becomes easier. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

"I'm very disappointed with both innings. I started well but didn't finish well. If you settle, you must go much bigger. That is why I was a bit upset. There were just 15 minutes left.

"The conditions here are different from Centurion. When you come to South Africa, you don't expect that [the pitch will be so flat]. With the new ball, it was a bit challenging, but once you settled down and built a partnership, it became easier."

Babar Azam also talked about his partnership with Shan Masood, saying that he should've capitalized and added that their partnership brought Pakistan back into the game. He added:

"I should have capitalized during our partnership, but unfortunately, it didn't happen. In the second innings, my partnership with Shan has helped us come back into the game a little," he concluded.
