The Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Babar Azam achieves a new milestone in the upcoming second Test match against the West Indies National Cricket Team. The current Test captain became the third Pakistani to lead the national team in 150 international matches. He is set to achieve the milestone at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.
Babar Azam was appointed as the Test captain a few months back after Shan Masood was sacked as the captain. This was his second stint as Pakistan’s Test captain. He did not have the best of starts as the Men in Green lost the first Test match against the Caribbean nation at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad and Tobago.
Babar Azam achieves new milestone
Babar will look to change the fortunes in the forthcoming Test match, which is scheduled to take place from August 2 to 6. The experienced batter will enter the history books on Sunday. Above him, only two cricketers have managed to captain the Men in Green side in 150+ matches across formats, Misbah-ul-Haq and Imran Khan.
Babar Azam has captained the Pakistan side in 85 T20Is, the most by any Pakistani cricketer. He has led the side in 43 ODI matches and 22 matches in the traditional format of the game. On Sunday, as soon as he arrived for the toss, he achieved the milestone. Babar has won 84 matches across formats as captain.
Babar Azam captaincy record
Babar took the leadership role in 2019 and captained across formats; in his 43 ODI matches, he has won 26 matches, lost 15, with 1 tied and 1 no result, giving him a strong win percentage of 60.46%. In 85 T20I matches, winning 48, lost 29, and tied 1, with 7 no-results, achieving a win percentage of 56.47%.
In the traditional format of the game, in 22 matches he has lost 7 matches, won 10, and has drawn 4 matches with a win percentage of 45.45. He has a fantastic record as a captain across formats but has not been trusted much by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after failure in major tournaments and in knockouts.
Babar Azam eyes another captaincy record
Babar has amassed 6,820 runs while captaining Pakistan in international cricket; he has to score 180 more in the second Test match against the West Indies to become just the second Pakistani to reach 7,000 Test runs, 393 runs to surpass the record of the former Pakistan captain.
Misbah holds the record for most runs scored by a Pakistani skipper. In 151 games as captain, he amassed 7,392 runs in 189 innings by the end of his career.
