The BAN vs NZ 1st Test starts in Sylhet on November 28 as Bangladesh and New Zealand start the red-ball leg of New Zealand’s Tour Of Bangladesh 2023. The match starts at 9 am IST which is 9.30 am local time.

Both are fresh from their respective World Cup campaigns. While the Kiwis reached the semi-finals, the Tigers finished eighth on the points table with just two wins and seven losses. By far they were the worst team in the tournament and they did not perform as expected.

Meanwhile, controversy seems to keep lingering with the Bangladesh national cricket team. Neither Tamim Iqbal nor Shakib Al Hasan are part of the squad for the first Test. Tamim was not a part of the World Cup squad and neither are they part of the test squad. Tamim announced his international retirement just ahead of the World Cup and took a U-turn on his decision within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are led by Nazmul Hossain Shanto in the first Test. He has played 23 Tests and scored four centuries and three half-centuries in the format. Mominul Haquem Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mushfiqur Rahim are the other key batters in the lineup. They have a spin-heavy bowling attack for the first Test with Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud as the specialist seamers.

The Kiwis, on the other hand, have named a full-strength squad with Tim Southee as their new red-ball captain. Trent Boult, Kane Williamson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, and Mitchell Santner make the Kiwis a good all-round side. They won the ODI series against the Tigers heading into the World Cup.

All three were played in haka with the first ODI ending no-result. New Zealand won the first ODI by 86 runs and the second by six wickets. This following Test series is a part of the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.
