In the ongoing Chattogram Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, medium speed pacer Kasun Rajitha has replaced Vishwa Fernando as a concussion replacement.

Fernando was hit in the head by a Shoriful Islam delivery just before Tea on Day 2.

Fernando was hit on the head by a Shoriful Islam delivery on the second day before Tea. While he continued to bat after the initial checks, he did not approach Angelo Mathews during the Tea break and returned only when the ninth wicket fell.

He delivered four overs last evening and four more this morning (May 17) before returning to the dressing room feeling sick.

“Fernando has been replaced by Rajitha as he is being brought to the hospital for an MRI,” a Sri Lankan team official told Cricbuzz on the third day of the Test.

Vishwa Fernando made his first-class debut in 2012:

Vishwa Fernando, a left-arm fast from Moratuwa, has been selected for national duty, owing to his skiddy pace generated by a whippy stroke. Fernando made his first-class debut in 2012 and immediately showed promise, taking 26 wickets in his first season.

Fernando’s bowling, on the other hand, was always regarded to be superior to his statistics. His initial call-up to the national team was based on a selector’s hunch and a desire to test left-arm quicks, who are in short supply in domestic cricket in Sri Lanka.

Fernando was picked in Sri Lanka’s Test squad for the UAE in 2014 and later accompanied the team to Bangladesh. However, he did not make his international debut and returned home to play a brief series against a visiting England A team.

In August of 2015, he was included in Sri Lanka’s Test team for the series against India, and he would get another chance in 2016. His choice was backed up by wickets this time. Fernando had claimed 40 scalps at an average of 21.97 in the 2014-15 Premier League Tournament.
