BAN vs SL Scorecard, 3rd ODI Highlights: Injury-hit Bangladesh thrash Sri Lanka by 4 wickets to seal series 2-1

Bangladesh National Cricket Team and Sri Lanka National Cricket Team crossed swords with each other in the final third match of the ODI series after two enthralling games. The series decider game between the two teams took place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday (18th March). 

Bangladesh National Cricket Team clinched the series by the margin of 2-1 after their sensational performance in the decider on Monday. They won the first game to start the series on high but were at the receiving end of a loss in the second match. Despite 3 key players getting injured in the game, the hosts made sure they won the third game.

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision, however, didn’t work in their favor as they produced a poor performance with the bat. Taskin Ahmed removed both the openers in Pathum Nissanka (1) and Avishka Fernando (4) early on.

After that Sri Lanka skipper, Kusal Mendis (29) tried to bail his team out of trouble but couldn’t carry on the start that he got. A similar story unfolded with Sadeera Samarawickrama (14) as he too got out early and Sri Lanka were left tottering at 74/4.

Charith Asalanka (37) played a vital hand for the team but the real blitz came from the bat of Janith Liyanage. With Sri Lanka reduced to 154/7, he made sure that he stepped up for the team and took them to a competitive total in the series decider against Bangladesh at Chattogram.

Janith Liyanage (101*) slammed his maiden ODI century for Sri Lanka and made sure that he stayed there till the end. He remained unbeaten on 101 runs off 102 balls and made sure that Sri Lanka got past 230 runs. The visitors ended with a total of 235 runs as wickets at the other end fell.

For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 3/42. Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz also bagged two scalps each. Whereas Soumya Sarkar and Rishad Hossain picked a wicket each as they bundled out the opposition for a low total in the series decider.

Bangladesh were off to a decent start with the bat. Anamul Haque (12) and Tanzid Hossain (84) added 50 runs for the opening partnership to put the opposition under pressure. However, after that, they lost two quick wickets as Najmul Hossain Shanto (1) too fell early.

Bangladesh came under pressure after they lost Towhid Hridoy (22) as well. The hosts were left tottering at 130/5. But after that senior Mushfiqur Rahim (37*) stepped up for the team. He made sure that he stayed there till the end and held the one end for his team.

At the other end, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (25) and Rishad Hossain (48*) played attacking cricket as Bangladesh chased the target with 4 wickets in hand. For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Kumara was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged 4 wickets.
