BAN vs SL: Watch: Maheesh Theekshana Bamboozles Mahmudullah With A Yorker

Maheesh Theekshana tried to stretch the game against Bangladesh as long as he could in the ICC World Cup 2023. The match 38th of the tournament took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium between Sri Lanka and the Shakib Al Hasan-led side. 

In the chase of 280 runs, Bangladesh were placed pretty well with 210/2. However, after that, Sri Lanka pulled things drastically well. They picked wickets in quick succession of time and made the match out of nothing. 

Maheesh Theekshana too was part of it as he removed in form Mahmudullah. The spinner bowled a stupendous delivery. He fired a yorker at the base of off stump. The batter was late on it and the ball sneaked through. Here’s the video:

Mahmudullah scored 22 runs off 23 balls. After his wicket, Maheesh Theekshana chipped in once again as he removed Mehidy Hasan Miraz as well and put immense pressure on Sri Lanka. 

Maheesh Theekshana bowled a full delivery around off stump. Mehidy Hasan cleared his front leg and lofted it down the ground but was caught. The batter managed just 3 runs. The bowler returned with the figures of 2/44. 

However, his efforts went in vain as Bangladesh won the game by 3 wickets. Towhid Hridoy (15*) hit some lusty blows in the end and won the game for his team to keep their hopes alive to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025. 

BAN vs SL: In the future, we’ll have a good team – Kusal Mendis after Sri Lanka get eliminated from the tournament 

Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis talked about the loss his side suffered against Bangladesh. He admitted that they missed the services of key players in the tournament and they also played bad cricket. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he explained: 

“Charith played a brilliant knock. But we were 30-40 runs short. Happy that some good young players coming through, and happy we have shown some promise in this tournament. In the future we’ll have a good team. We had injuries to main players, also did some mistakes. Had we played better cricket, we would’ve had a better chance. It’s very disappointing.” 

Sri Lanka will play their last league match against New Zealand. The game will take place on Thursday (9th November).
