BAN vs SL: Watch - Shakib Al Hasan Castles Dhananjaya De Silva To Send Him Packing For 2 In Asia Cup 2023

Despite Bangladesh losing the game, skipper Shakib Al Hasan gave his best to defend the low target against Sri Lanka in the second game of the Asia Cup 2023. The all-rounder kept things tight with the ball and gave his best but unfortunately couldn’t take his team past the finishing line. 

Shakib Al Hasan picked up two wickets in his spell while defending 165 runs and conceded just 29 runs. Out of the two wickets he picked, the scalp of Dhananjaya de Silva was the stand-out one as it brought Bangladesh little back in the game after the partnership between Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka. 

Shakib Al Hasan bowled a tossed-up delivery to Dhananjaya de Silva, to which the batter tried to step out. He ended up working himself and the ball sneaked through him and rattled the stumps to send the batter packing for 2 runs.

Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan removed Kusal Mendis for 5 runs. The Bangladesh captain dismissed the batter by getting him bowled. He was the pick of the bowlers for his team as he gave his best to win the match but unfortunately couldn’t. 

BAN vs SL: Have to regroup, and have another important game in a couple of days – Shakib Al Hasan after Bangladesh’s disappointing loss against Sri Lanka 

Shakib Al Hasan talked about the 5-wicket loss Bangladesh suffered in the game against Sri Lanka. He admitted that they didn’t bat well and added that they need to forget this and move ahead as they have an important game coming up. He explained: 

“It wasn’t a 300 wicket. 220-230 would’ve given us more chance. Didn’t bat well as a unit. Have to regroup, have another important game in a couple of days. Needed couple more wickets when they were 3 down for 30. 

“We picked up wickets but didn’t have enough on the board. There were a lot of nerves when we started the game. Lot of guys playing Asia Cup for the first time. They’ve been playing good cricket that’s why they’re in dressing room.” 

Bangladesh were extremely poor with the bat as they posted just 164 runs on the board. With the ball, they tried well and picked 5 wickets but the total wasn’t enough to defend. They will be next seen in action on Sunday (3rd September) when they take on Afghanistan.
