Bangladesh Announce 18-Man Squad For The Test Series Against West Indies

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced the squad for the upcoming two-match home Test series against West Indies. The first Test match is scheduled to begin on 3rd February at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram and the second Test is slated for the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka commencing from 11th February.

The Mominul Haque-led side will play a Test after almost a year; Bangladesh’s last Test match was against Zimbabwe at home. They won the Test by an innings and 106 runs – Mushfiqur Rahim struck a double hundred. The Tigers lost to Pakistan last February and the second Test was postponed due to the lockdown imposed owing to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.

Bangladesh add Shakib Al Hasan to the squad after being injured in the ODI series

Former captain and superstar all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan is welcomed back to the Test side as well after making his return to international cricket from a year-long ban in the ODI series against West Indies. The hosts whitewashed the visitors 3-0 in the ODIs.

There was an injury concern over Shakib – the left-hander suffered a groin injury in the third ODI against West Indies, However, the BCB has confirmed that Shakib has been cleared to play the Test match.

Bangladesh had earlier named a 20-member provisional Test squad. Nurul Hasan and Khaled Ahmed are the ones left out from the provisional squad.

The left-arm pacer, Mustafizur Rahman and Shadman Islam, also returns to the Test squad after missing the last match against Zimbabwe. Apart from that, uncapped players Hasan Mahmud and Yasir Ali Chowdhury are also included in the 18-man squad.
