The International Cricket Council took disciplinary action against Scotland batter Ailsa Lister after her team’s Group B match against the West Indies on June 18 at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026.
After the heartbreaking seven-run loss to the West Indies, Lister faced the punishment and Scotland slipped to the third spot on the Group B points table with 2 points from two games. They will next face England in Leeds on Saturday in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Scotland's Ailsa Lister reprimanded by ICC after West Indies clash
On Saturday, June 20, the ICC has officially reprimanded the Scottish cricketer for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Along with the reprimand, one demerit point has also been added to Lister's disciplinary record. This was her first offence in the 24-month period.
The ICC has confirmed that Lister was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
How Ailsa Lister lost her cool during ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026
The incident unfolded in the 19th over of Scotland's chase against the West Indies women at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. Had Ailsa Lister survived, the result might have been different, as Scotland were thrashed by just seven runs in the Group B match by the West Indies side.
Lister was batting brilliantly, and she had already made 33 runs off 25 balls with the help of four boundaries and one six before Aaliyah Alleyne handed out a big blow. Alleyne bowled a brilliant delivery, and Lister tried to play an adventurous scoop shot by moving across her stumps, hoping to guide the ball over the wicketkeeper.
However, she made the big blunder at the very wrong time. The delivery went straight through and crashed into the stumps, ending Lister's impressive knock. The wicket was a huge moment in the match because Lister was looking comfortable and was Scotland's main hope in the 154-run chase against West Indies in Leeds.
Officials act against Lister over emotional on-field outburst
Frustrated after losing her wicket, the Scotland batter showed her disappointment while walking back to the pavilion. She threw her bat and gloves onto the ground and later kicked over a bin near the Scotland women’s national cricket team dugout in Leeds.
The actions caught the attention of the match officials, who later reported the incident to the ICC. After being charged, Lister accepted breaching the ICC Code of Conduct and agreed to the punishment handed down by match referee GS Lakshmi.
Since she admitted the offence, there was no need for a formal hearing. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Kerrin Klaaste, along with third umpire N. Janani and fourth umpire Nimali Perera.
Under ICC rules, a level 1 offence can lead to an official reprimand, a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player's match fee, and one or two demerit points. In Lister's case, she received an official reprimand and one demerit point.
