Bangladesh cricket has been rocked by a shocking incident ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. Local police have filed a charge sheet against Bangladesh ‘A’ team all-rounder Tofael Ahmed Raihan in a sexual harassment case.
Tofael Ahmed Raihan has been accused of sexually assaulting a young woman after convincing her that he wanted to marry her. Police confirmed that the case has been filed under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Samiul Islam of Gulshan Police Station, stated on Thursday (December 11): “The charge sheet has been filed under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.”
The next hearing is scheduled for December 30, when the charge sheet will be placed before the court. Case documents mention that Tofael first contacted the woman on Facebook in January. Their chats on Messenger became regular, and slowly a romantic relationship began.
Tofael Ahmed Raihan accused of repeated sexual assault
The woman had refused at first but later agreed because Tofael repeatedly told her that he planned to marry her. According to the complaint, the Bangladesh cricketer took her to a hotel in Gulshan on January 31, introduced her as his wife, and then allegedly forced her into sexual acts.
She claimed that the all-rounder again promised marriage afterward. The woman also mentioned that Raihan sexually assaulted her several more times on different days but refused to marry her when she finally insisted.
After months of distress, she filed a case at Gulshan Police Station on August 1 for repeated sexual violence. On September 24, the High Court granted Tofael a six-week anticipatory bail and instructed him to appear before the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal before the bail ended.

Bangladesh cricketer defies court order, strong evidence puts career at risk
However, the cricketer did not follow the court’s order. Instead, despite the ongoing case and the bail conditions, Tofael travelled to Hong Kong to play in a six-a-side tournament for the Bangladesh ‘A’ team. His decision to leave the country has raised even more serious questions about his act.
Now, police confirmed that they have strong proof to support the case. They have collected hotel records, medical reports, and statements from people involved, all of which help confirm the woman’s allegations, putting the all-rounder’s career under serious threat.
While all the participating teams are busy preparing for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh doesn’t have any T20I games before heading into the mega event. The tournament will be held in February-March, while the Tigers played their international game earlier this month.
