Bangladesh's defeat against Australia in Mackay by an innings caused embarrassment to the Pakistan National Cricket Team. Because of the Darwin Test match, where the Bangladesh National Cricket Team defeated the hosts Australia by 9 wickets, the Tiger Brigade got their highest-ever ICC Men’s Test rankings.

After the Australia vs Bangladesh second Test match, the ICC rankings for the Men's Test teams are updated, with the Bangladesh cricket team climbing to No.6, which is their best in the standings. They claimed the spot, surpassing Sri Lanka, Pakistan and West Indies.

Bangladesh claims their best-ever ICC Test Rankings

The Darwin Test match was enough to disrupt the rankings. By putting everyone in surprise, the away team claimed a historic defeat against the hosts Australia. Australia, however, bounced back with pure force in the second of the two-match Test series, outplaying Bangladesh by an innings and 51 runs.

The three-match Test series in Australia ended 1-1 as Bangladesh and Australia both had one win each. The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led team gained three spots to claim the sixth spot.

According to the ICC Men’s Test rankings, after playing 24 matches, the Bangladesh cricket team now has 78 ratings and 1898 points, while Sri Lanka and Pakistan are on 76 and 75 points, respectively.

The table is topped by the Australia cricket team, despite the Darwin Test match defeat, with 126 points in 27 matches. Between Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Sri Lanka has played the least number of matches.

An embarrassing situation for Pakistan in the WTC 2025-27 points table as well

In the ongoing World Test Championship 2025-27 (WTC 2025-27), Australia, with 8 wins and two defeats in 10 matches, is at No.1, and South Africa in second place, winning three matches and one defeat in 4 games. Bangladesh, at fourth position with three wins, two defeats and one draw in 6 games, is one step ahead of the Indian cricket team.

In the 9-team points table of the WTC 2025-27, Pakistan is holding the ninth position; they have suffered five defeats against only two wins in seven matches. Their latest defeat was against England in Leeds. England claimed the match against Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs.

Bangladesh will next face South Africa in Tests

The Men in Green are in England for a three-match Test series, which is crucial for them to do some justice to their pride. On the other side, the Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to tour South Africa to face them for a couple of Test matches. The series will start on November 15 and will run till November 27.

On paper, South Africa, the defending World Test Champions, are the favourites to win the series, but it will be interesting to see if Bangladesh can manage to pull out another shocking result like the Darwin Test match against Australia.
