Bangladesh's cricket team arrives in the second Test against West Indies with a mountain to climb after being humiliated by a 201-run defeat in Antigua.
The tourists, still searching for their first Test victory on Caribbean soil, face mounting pressure to salvage pride and prevent a series whitewash.
Visitors exposed the critical vulnerabilities in its batting lineup during the first Test. The team's implosion while being bowled out for 132 in the second innings simply underlined how long this team has been suffering with disciplined fast bowling.
In fact, Taskin Ahmed was the only shining spot - his career-best 6 for 64 in the West Indies' second innings gives cause for optimism, but is insufficient to cover deeper structural weaknesses.
Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz is facing the biggest challenge of his leadership career. His team's performance in the second Test will be crucial to the potential of the squad to compete internationally.
Bangladesh squad
Hasan Mahmud, Hasan Murad, Litton Das, Mahidul Islam Ankon, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (C), Mominul Haque, Nahid Rana, Shadman Islam, Shoriful Islam, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Zakir Hasan

Openers: Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Zakir Hasan
Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan will be opening for the tourists in the second Test. Both of them carry a responsibility to lay a solid foundation, especially after their batting lineup struggled in the first Test.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy, the calm one, would look to hold up the innings and absorb the initial pressure of the West Indies pacers. His low scores in the last Test weren't the best, but he has shown resilience before and possesses the technique to grind out tough sessions.
Zakir Hasan, on the other hand, brings attacking intent to the crease. Though he could hardly do much in Antigua, his stroke play and also the ability to counterattack can be a key unsettling factor for the West Indies bowlers early on.
Middle-order batsmen and allrounders: Mominul Haque, Shahadat Hossain Diphu, Litton Das (WK), Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz
The middle order will consist of the experienced Mominul Haque, young Shahadat Hossain Dipu, aggressive Litton Das, unflappable Jaker Ali, and allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Mominul will look to anchor for stabilizing the innings in case it collapses early.
Shahadat brings youthfulness and aggression, and this may be the game where he can cement his place.
Litton Das, as wicketkeeper-batsman, adds adaptability and the ability to counter-attack, offering a crucial shift in momentum.
Jaker Ali’s calmness under pressure makes him a reliable finisher, particularly in partnerships with the lower order. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz rounds off the middle order, combining leadership with his ability to add valuable runs in key moments.
Bowlers: Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed
There have been enough signs of Hasan Mahmud doing well as a fast bowler in the recent series where his aggressive pace bowling style shows scope. while an early wicket-taker, Nahid Rana, has got some wheels to him.
Veteran left-arm spinner Taijul Islam will lead the spin department, capitalizing on his proven ability to generate turn and bounce. The pace attack will be led by the experienced Taskin Ahmed whose consistent high-velocity bowling has been a reliable asset for the national team.
