Bangladesh stars struggle badly in new fitness test ahead of Asia Cup 2025, only Nahid Rana shines

Bangladesh National Cricket Team players were put through a new set of endurance drills at the National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday, August 10, and the young pacer Nahid Rana emerged as the top performer.
Under the guidance of Bangladesh’s newly appointed strength and conditioning coach Nathan Keily, the traditional yo-yo and beep tests have been replaced by a 1600-meter run and a 40-meter sprint to test the players’ stamina and speed ahead of the upcoming three-match T20I series against the Netherlands and the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE.
Nahid Rana shines in Bangladesh’s new fitness test
Nahin Rana was the standout performer among the 22 Bangladeshi players who took part, as the youngster completed the 1600 meters in just 5 minutes and 31 seconds, which is the best time recorded in the training camp. Team management praised Rana’s effort.

A member of the Bangladesh cricket team management was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “Rana was just outstanding. Few others also did well, but at the same time, there were a couple of cricketers who could not meet our expectations.”
Among those who struggled during the fitness test were senior bowlers Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Tanvir Islam, and Shamim Patowary, who almost took eight minutes to finish the 1600-meter run. The players were divided into two batches for the test.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mehidy Hasan Miraz among others steal show in Bangladesh's camp
In the first group, Mehidy Hasan Miraz secured second place after completing his run in 6 minutes and 1 second, while Mushfiqur Rahim, who is only active in Test cricket, followed in third by clocking 6 minutes and 10 seconds.
In the second batch, that was comprised of 15 players, Tanzim Hasan Sakib completed his 1600-meter run in 5 minutes and 53 seconds. Tanzim was followed by Shahadat Hossain Dipu (6 minutes) and Parvez Hossain Emon (6 minutes and 13 seconds).
On the other hand, six players from the 25-man preliminary squad did not take part in Sunday’s test. Among those who missed are the T20I captain Liton Kumar Das and Towhid Hridoy, while Nurul Hasan Sohan, Saif Hasan, Afif Hossain, and Mahidul Islam Ankon were unavailable due to commitments with Bangladesh ‘A’ team on tour in Australia.
The fitness camp will continue before the squad shifts to Sylhet on August 20 for a skills training camp.
Bangladesh A ready for the Top End T20 Series 2025
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already announced the squad for the Bangladesh A team that will compete in the Top End T20 Series 2025 in Darwin, Australia.
The tournament will give Bangladesh A side a chance to play in foreign conditions, gain valuable match practice, and help the selectors assess backup options for the senior team.
