Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali criticized Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto after the team's whitewash loss in India. Basit Ali said that Najmul Hossain Shanto might have mistakenly thought his team was playing against Pakistan again and highlighted his 2-0 prediction before the series.

Bangladesh suffered a seven-wicket loss against India at the Green Park in Kanpur on Tuesday, October 1. The Rohit Sharma-led side secured a 2-0 whitewash over the visitors. The hosts secured the victory in the second Test despite the two days of play being called off without a ball being bowled.

Only 35 overs were possible on the first three days of the Kanpur Test. Indian bowlers and batters showcased an aggressive intent in the last two days of the match. India scored 285 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in just 34.4 overs. India chased down the 95-run target in 17.2 overs and won the match.

Shanto Had Said Bangladesh Would Beat India 2-0 - Basit Ali

In a video shared by Basit Ali on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali said that Najmul Hossain Shanto confidently predicted a 2-0 victory over India. Basit emphasized that India dominated Bangladesh throughout the Test matches, adding that this shows you the difference between India and Pakistan.

"Shanto had said Bangladesh would beat India 2-0. Maybe he thought that they were facing Pakistan again. It is painful to say that Bangladesh's Tests against Pakistan went till the last day and India finished it in two days. This shows you the difference between India and Pakistan. This is the reality and you must accept it," Basit Ali said.

We Want To Get The Result - Najmul Hossain Shanto

Before the series against India, Najmul Hossain Shanto said that Bangladesh would play for the full five days and aim for a result in the final session. Shanto said this series was a chance to secure Bangladesh's first Test victory in India.

"They are well ahead of us in the rankings. But we did play well recently. We want to play well for five days, that's our goal. We want to get the result in the last session of the Test match. At that time, the match can go in any direction. It is an opportunity [to get our first win in India]. We will play with a win in mind. But we don't want to think too far ahead," Najmul Hossain Shanto said in the press conference.

Bangladesh entered the series against India with high hopes after achieving a historic 2-0 victory over Pakistan. It’s worth mentioning that this was their first Test series win against Pakistan. However, their confidence took a hit as they faced consecutive losses against the Indian cricket team.

Bangladesh started the first Test against India on an impressive note. They restricted India to 144/6 on the opening day of the Chennai Test. However, Indian all-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja changed the match in India's favor, leading the home team to a convincing 280-run victory.
