Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali said that India might tour Pakistan for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 if Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Pakistan later this year.

Basit Ali's explosive statement came in the wake of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Governments meeting, scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan on October 15-16.

Basit Ali claims India’s Champions Trophy 2025 tour depends on PM Modi’s visit to Pakistan

It is being said that an invitation has been extended to Indian PM Narendra Modi for this high-profile Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), but the Indian government has not yet officially confirmed the same.

However, Basit Ali suggested that if Narendra Modi accepts the invitation, it could pave the way for India to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

It will be a historic moment for cricket fans across both nations if Modi’s possible visit to Pakistan paves the way for the Indian cricket team to play in the cricket-crazy nation.

Basit Ali said if Modi declines the invitation, the responsibility for resolving the matter will fall to the International Cricket Council (ICC), as the BCCI is reportedly demanding a hybrid model for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

It will be interesting to see how Jay Shah handles this situation: Basit Ali

Basit Ali said on his YouTube channel: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi was invited to the SCO conference in Pakistan on 15th October and 16th October.

Whether he comes or not, it will only tell time. But his relations are very good with our ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his brother, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Next month, there is also a meeting of the ICC. But I think the meeting of the ICC will also be incomplete. If Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes, then let's assume that 99.9% of India will come for the Champions Trophy. Otherwise, if he does not come, then the matter will go into the court of the ICC, and it will be interesting to see how Jay Shah handles this.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan will be hosting the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Government meeting in October, and invitations have been sent to all heads of the countries.

Invitation has been sent to the Prime Minister of India: Mumtaz Zahra Baloch

Pakistan’s foreign office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, said in a press release: “Invitations have been sent to the heads of countries to participate in the meeting, which will take place on October 15-16. An invitation has also been sent to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.”

Notably, the Asia Cup 2023 was held under the hybrid model, where India’s matches were held in Sri Lanka after the BCCI denied sending Team India to Pakistan, citing a government clearance issue.

Now, the PCB has the hosting rights to the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, and yet again, the BCCI is reportedly asking for the same arrangements, with the possible venues being Sri Lanka or the UAE.

However, there has not been any official statement on behalf of the BCCI regarding the demand, but Shah, the board secretary, joined the ICC as the new chairman, and everyone is keenly awaiting how he will solve the issue in the upcoming board meeting.
