The Perth Scorchers, the most successful team in Big Bash League history, have suffered another setback ahead of their title defence in the 12th edition of the BBL, with fast bowler Tymal Mills ruled out of the tournament due to a family emergency.

The Scorchers, who won a record fourth title last summer, signed South African legend Faf Du Plessis as a replacement import for English batter and last season’s BBL Grand Final hero Laurie Evans, who left the Scorchers after testing positive for doping. Phil Salt was ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury earlier this month.

The Club Fully Supports Mills’ Decision

The Perth Scorchers issued a statement on Tymal Mills’ unavailability and expressed their support for his decision. They are looking towards recruiting a replacement international player.

“The Club fully supports Mills’ decision, and sends its thoughts and best wishes to his family during this time. Perth is exploring its options to recruit a replacement international player.”

Australia allrounder Mitchell Marsh was also ruled out of the BBL after undergoing ankle surgery. Former England Test opener Adam Lyth was named as Salt’s replacement last week. Both Lyth and du Plessis are only available for the first half of the season, while Stephen Eskinazi has signed a full-season contract.

Jhye Richardson is also making good progress from a toe injury, bowling at full pace on Monday as he gets closer to his return against the Sixers. The Scorchers rushed to find a replacement for Mills, but they won’t have the player available for the season opener on Saturday.
