Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis produced a moment of magic in match number 17 of the Big Bash League 2023/24 season as he made a diving attempt to complete a catch of Hobart Hurricanes batter Macalister Wright who was batting at a strike rate of almost 174 before departing for 33 runs off 19 deliveries at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

Pakistan Leg Spinner Usama Mir was bowling the 6th over of the match and he had mistakenly bowled a juicy full toss. Any batsman in the world would be lured to smack such a full toss of that sort and so did Macalister Wright, who came in at number 3 to replace the opener and captain of the Hurricanes, Matthew Wade.

Usama Mir’s tempting full toss took a slight dip before Wright jabbed the ball towards the area between long on and deep mid-wicket. Given Wright’s bat swing and his strike rate, anyone watching that instance would have assumed that the ball was sailing over the ropes.

However, the ball landed just a few meters before the boundary rope and if it wasn’t for the heroic attempt of Marcus Stoinis, it would have easily been a 4. Stoinis after noticing the ball taking a dipping trajectory, acrobatically dived towards his right and completed a sensational diving catch to amaze everyone inside the Blundstone Arena.

The commentators were forced to say that Melbourne Stars got lucky to get the wicket of Macalister Wright who was inching closer towards a quickfire half-century. Marcus Stoinis’ teammate Tim David who was fielding near him rushed towards him and gave a high five with the commentators getting surprised by the way the ball was carried to Stoinis’ hands.

The 34-year-old all-rounder Marcus Stoinis reminded a fielding attempt of former New Zealand Captain Brendan McCullum who completed a catch like that in the IPL. There are also a bit of similarities between the 2 in terms of their Muscular body.

After Marcus Stoinis’ Heroics On Field, Melbourne Stars Get Reduced Target of 67 From 7 Overs

The Melbourne Stars led by Glenn Maxwell opted to ball first after winning the Toss in Hobart. His bowlers complimented his decision as they were able to get all of the Hobart Hurricanes’ batters out for 155 in 19.4 overs.

Caleb Jewell’s 45, Macalister Wright’s 33, Sam Hain’s 11, and Nikhil Chaudhary’s rapid 32 runs knock helped the Hurricanes post a defendable total on the board.

However, the game came to a halt for a while due to rain right after the Hurricanes were all out. The match had begun at the Blundstone Arena moments ago with Melbourne Stars getting a revised target of 67 in 7 overs following the application of Duck Worth Lewis method.

The Stars’ batting lineup consisting of Thomas Rogers, Glenn Maxwell, Marus Stoinis, and Imad Wasim are expected to chase down the total but regardless it will be an enthralling game to see.
