Adelaide Strikers skipper Matthew Short was in a destroying mood in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 against Sydney Thunder. Match 37 of the tournament between the two teams took place at the Manuka, Oval in Canberra.
Matthew Short played a match-winning knock for his team against Sydney Thunder and made sure that he took his team to the playoffs stage. After his team bundled out the opposition for just 140 runs, he displayed real carnage with the bat.
Matthew Short, who is the leading run-getter in the Big Bash League 2023/24, came out with an attacking mindset and played some crisp shots. He made bowlers look clueless and smashed them all over the park, making sure that he put his team in the dominant position right from the start.
One of the highlights of Matthew Short’s innings was the six that he hit off Sydney Thunder spinner Tanveer Sangha on the last ball of the 4th over of the second innings. The six made almost everyone in the stands go berserk.
Tanveer Sangha erred in his length and bowled a short ball. Matthew Short went deep in the crease and bent his knees slightly to get under the ball. The middle the ball to perfection and dispatched it over the deep mid-wicket. The ball had a lot of power in it went out of the stadium.

After that hit, Matthew Short didn’t look back and played with authority. He added 86 runs partnership with Jake Weatherland, who scored 47 runs, as Adelaide Strikers completed a dominating 9-wicket win to earn important two points.
Matthew Short carried his bat through and took his team home. He ended with an innings of unbeaten 74 runs off 49 balls. The right-hander batted with a strike rate of over 150 and also slammed 4 fours and 4 sixes in his innings.

Adelaide Striker bowler Lloyd Pope, who picked 4 wickets in the game and won the Player of the Match award, was nothing but all praise of his skipper Matthew Short. He highlighted how the batted has performed for the team with both bat and ball. He also talked about his performance in the match and said that it was fun playing and explained:
“How good Shorty has been this tournament. His performances speaks for itself, gets good runs every game and bowls at the top. It happened pretty quickly, he gave a call and asked me whether I would play. I am familiar with the boys and it has been great fun with the boys. (On whether he will fancy facing his former team) That will be fun, it doesn’t really matter. I hope to play well to be honest.”
Matthew Short is the leading run-getter in the tournament with 509 runs to his name from just 9 games. The batter has an average of over 72 this season and also has slammed 6 half-centuries. He would be hoping to continue that form and help his team win the title.
