The Bangladesh national cricket team is all set to face a massive setback just days before one of its biggest home assignments of the year, and probably the reason is the Indian influence. Bangladesh’s fast bowling coach Shaun Tait is unlikely to continue the role.
Tait’s future with the Bangladesh national cricket team now looks highly uncertain ahead of the upcoming white-ball series against Australia. The Tigers are all set to host the Kangaroos in a three-match ODI series and the same number of T20Is starting June 9, 2026.
Shaun Tait set to leave Bangladesh role before Australia series
Before the Australia series, Shaun Tait is reportedly ready to shock the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Tait still has a contract with the BCB until the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, a Cricbuzz report revealed that the former Australian speedster has informed the BCB that he may not be able to continue in his role, and that too just before the upcoming home series.

There is now uncertainty over whether Tait will even arrive in Bangladesh as originally planned for the white-ball series against Australia. A BCB official shared, as quoted by Cricbuzz: “I am not sure whether he (Tait) will come to join the team ahead of the Australia series or not, considering he is not ready to continue, citing family reasons.”
Is Bengal job behind Shaun Tait's shocking call?
Meanwhile, there is also growing talk about Shaun Tait aiming for a key role in Indian domestic cricket. The former Australian pacer is reportedly interested in joining the coaching setup of Bengal, and he has even already gone through discussions regarding the position with CAB.
Laxmi Ratan Shukla was recently retained as the Bengal senior team’s head coach, but the vacancy for the bowling coach remains vacant, and Tait is the frontrunner to join one of the successful domestic teams.
On the other hand, Tait has played a key role behind Bangladesh’s recent improvement in the bowling department since joining the setup in May 2025. He was known for his aggressive fast bowling during his playing days, and he brought the same intensity to Bangladesh's pace attack.

Shaun Tait behind Nahid Rana's rise
He has worked closely with several young players, and his biggest success story has been the rise of young speedster Nahid Rana. The talented pacer has emerged as one of Bangladesh's brightest stars, regularly troubling batters with his raw pace.
While Tait's work has been appreciated by BCB, family commitments are said to be the main reason behind his possible departure. Those close to the situation believe that personal priorities have made it difficult for him to continue spending a long time in Bangladesh.
Notably, Australia and Bangladesh are set to play three ODIs and three T20Is. The ODI matches are scheduled to take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on June 9, 11, and 14.
After the ODI leg, the action will shift to Chattogram, where they will play three T20I matches at the Bir Shreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium on June 17, 19, and 21, respectively.
