The Bangladesh Cricket Board has removed Nazmul Hassan from the board permanently after the former board president failed to attend three or more consecutive meetings. Hassan was removed keeping in mind the rules of the BCB constitution.

Hassan was among the 11 directors removed by the new administration team, led by BCB's current president Faruque Ahmed. Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) chairman Sheikh Sohel is also on this list as BCB also formed a constitution amendment committee, led by the director Nazmul Abedeen.

Nazmul Hassan removed from BCB

Apart from Nazmul Hassan and Sheikh Sohel, the other persons removed from the board are Manzur Kader, AJM Nasir Uddin, Anwarul Islam, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, Ismail Haider Mallick, Tanvir Ahmed, Obeid Nizam, Gazi Golam Murtoza and Nazib Ahmed.

All these 11 names have been missing since the political uprising in Bangladesh on August 5 when the ruling Awami League government was dethroned. The country's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to leave the country in order to save her life.

Since then, all the Awami League members or supporters have been targeted in the country. All of the 11 directors have direct or indirect connections with the Awami League and thus, have been missing for safety.

Nazmul Hassan was the sports minister, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury was an Awami League MP and Nasir was a former Chattogram mayor during the Awami League's 15-year rule. Sheikh Sohel and Nazib Ahmed are relatives of Sheikh Hasina, the former prime minister, while Ismail Haider Mallick was Nazmul's close associate.

Three other board directors to resign

In addition to the removal of 11 board directors, three other directors Naimur Rahman, Khaled Mahmud, and Enayet Hossain Siraj resigned from their post and the BCB has accepted their resignations.

Overall, the Bangladesh Cricket Board had 25 directors but only 10 remained after the fall of the Awami League government. 14 of the board directors have been removed or they have resigned while one died before the month of August.

In another development, the BCB also prepared a constitution amendment committee which will be led by the director Nazmul Abedeen. According to a press release, the committee's main goal is to assess the current constitution and identify the need for any further improvement.

"The committee will be responsible for assessing the current BCB constitution, identifying areas of improvement and proposing amendments that align with the strategic goals and evolving needs of the BCB," the press release stated.

When was Faruque Ahmed appointed as BCB president?

Faruque Ahmed was sworn in as the board president just two weeks after the interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, took over the reins of the country. Faruque was appointed as the president by the BCB directors while Nazmul Abedeen was appointed the director.

Abedeen replaced Jalal Yunus, who resigned as the director after the fall of the ruling government. Faruque Ahmed also became the first international cricketer from the country to become the board president as former president Nazmul Hassan resigned from his post.
