Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has surprisingly not received his salary for the last four months of 2024, despite being under a central contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Shakib Al Hasan’s bank account is reportedly frozen, and that’s why his payment could not be cleared.

Recently, BCB announced an increase in players' salaries and match fees, but Shakib’s salary has not been cleared. Notably, Shakib was given an all-formats contract by the BCB last year alongside Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Shoriful Islam.

Shakib Al Hasan yet to receive his salary as BCB freezes payment over bank account issues

Bangladesh Cricket Board officials admitted that Shakib Al Hasan’s payment for September to December is pending, and the reason behind the delay is that his bank account is frozen. The former Bangladesh skipper and experienced all-rounder is reportedly owed BDT 48 lakhs (USD 38,400) before taxes from the BCB.

BCB official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “It's true that he (Shakib) is yet to receive salary for September, October, November, and December, and that is largely due to the fact his bank account got frozen.”

On the other hand, BCB cricket operation chairman Nazmul said: “He (Shakib) will get his salary as per the agreement because whether you play or not there is an agreement in place and certainly we will try to fulfil our commitment as per the agreement.”

Shakib Al Hasan couldn't play the final Test in Bangladesh due to security reasons

Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan had hoped to play his farewell Test at home against South Africa after announcing his retirement from Test and T20I cricket during the Kanpur Test against India in September 2024. However, this couldn’t have happened due to security concerns.

During the India-Bangladesh series, Shakib found himself trapped in legal trouble, as he was accused in a murder case during the political unrest that led to the fall of the government. However, the BCB allowed Shakib to continue playing, saying he would remain part of the team unless proven guilty.

Initially, the BCB assured Shakib that he could return to Bangladesh for the South Africa Test without any issues. Later, the board reconsidered their decision due to potential disruptions, especially after the ICC Women’s World Cup was relocated from Bangladesh to the UAE due to security concerns.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah set to be dropped from ODI team

The all-rounder, who became the target for his political involvement, suffered another setback on November 6, 2024, when his bank accounts were frozen. Despite retiring from Tests and T20Is, he had set his sights on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but his hopes were shattered after failing to make the squad due to his suspect bowling action.

Recently, the BCB has stated that senior players Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah will have to prove themselves to earn a spot in the ODI team after their disappointing performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Nazmul stated, “Considering their age and performances, it's not my call actually but the selectors'. It wouldn't be right to comment, but it's not going to be very easy.”
