The 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was held at the board's headquarters in Mumbai on Friday, September 18, 2026. Several important administrative and structural decisions were taken during the meeting.
The General Body approved changes concerning the IPL Governing Council, umpire and match referee payments, the BCCI's Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy and age verification rules. Arun Dhumal and Khairul Jamal Majumdar elected to the Governing Council of the IPL
BCCI General Body elected two representatives to the Governing Council of the IPL. Arun Singh Dhumal and M Khairul Jamal Majumdar were unanimously elected and inducted into the council.
The General Body also approved plans to celebrate the 20th edition of the IPL in 2027 on a grand scale. The tournament will reach the landmark edition next year, with the BCCI deciding to mark the occasion through special celebrations.
Another major milestone discussed at the AGM was the BCCI's centenary. The board has begun the process for its centenary celebrations in 2028. The programme will run for an entire year, beginning in December 2027 and continuing through 2028.
The celebrations are set to mark 100 years of the BCCI and Indian cricket, making them one of the major long-term initiatives discussed by the General Body.
Major decisions taken at BCCI AGM 2026
BCCI General Body adopted the audited statement of accounts for the financial year 2025-26 and approved the annual budget for 2026-27. The auditors for the upcoming financial year were also appointed during the meeting.
Also, the General Body unanimously approved an enhanced payment structure for umpires and match referees. Their grades were also reclassified as part of the changes to the payment structure.
AGM further saw the formation of a new Internal Committee under the BCCI's Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy. The board also updated and adopted its Age Verification Policy.
Support for differently-abled cricketers was another issue discussed with the State Units. The discussions focused on providing appropriate facilities and resources to help differently-abled players with their development and progress.
No decision made on Ajit Agarkar's future at AGM
There was no immediate decision on Ajit Agarkar's position as chairman of the senior men's selection committee. Instead, the BCCI office-bearers were authorized to take a decision on the matter.
"The AGM has authorized the office-bearers to take a decision on the chief selector," BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told reporters after the meeting.
Agarkar's future had been under discussion in the build-up to the AGM. His absence from an earlier review meeting had also raised questions, although the BCCI had played down the development.
If the BCCI eventually decides to replace Agarkar, the appointment process would involve advertising the position and conducting interviews before a new chairman can be selected. Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel, spinner Pragyan Ojha and legendary pacer Zaheer Khan are among the names in the race to replace Ajit Agarkar.
