The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has increased the sponsorship rates for the jerseys, which makes it costlier for brands to associate with the Indian team. This decision has been made after Dream11 marked their exit as the sponsor post the Indian government's Online Gaming Act 2025.
Cricket is the biggest sport in India, as it gives a huge amount of revenue to the Indian government, and the BCCI is the richest of all cricket boards in the world. The biggest franchise tournament in the world, the IPL, is under the board's supervision, while it's the Indian owners who now own several teams across different leagues.
The highly ventured sport has reached a new high since the Indian board has made some calls over offering new sponsorship deals to brands after Dream11's exit.
The BCCI has increased the sponsorship amount for the Indian team
As per reports from PTI, sponsoring the Indian team is all set to get costlier, with the BCCI raising the amount to INR 3.5 crores per match for a bilateral series and INR 1.5 crores for a game in the multilateral events.
Citing industry sources, the report added that these figures are slightly higher than the current rates of Rs 3.17 crore for bilateral games and Rs 1.12 crore for multilateral matches.
According to the latest reports from Cricbuzz, these figures will apply in competitions that will be held by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
Dream11's exit following the Online Gaming Act 2025 of the Indian Government
The development came following Dream11's exit as jersey sponsor, which was triggered by the government's Online Gaming Act 2025. After the government act was brought into regulation, the BCCI reportedly cancelled the contract of their lead sponsor, Dream11.
The new regulations have barred companies dealing in real money gaming and cryptocurrency from the process due to a government ban on such entities.
Dream 11 being a similar application, recently shut down its real money games due to the 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025', which states that "no person shall offer any, aid, abet, induce, indulge, engage in offering online money gaming services nor shall involve in any advertisement which directly or indirectly promotes any person to play any online money game".
BCCI to earn higher amounts with new sponsorship deal set to begin post Asia Cup 2025
The BCCI on Tuesday invited bids for the Indian team's title sponsorship rights after Dream11's exit. With this revision, the board is expected to potentially earn more than INR 400 crores in the deal, although it may be higher since the final figure would only be decided depending on the bidding outcome.
The potential deal could be landed to come into effect only after India ends their Asia Cup campaign. The Asia Cup is scheduled to be played from the 9th of September to the 28th of September in the UAE. September 16th remains the closing date of the bid survival.
