BCCI secretary Jay Shah, on Sunday (June 30), announced huge prize money for Team India after their victory in the recently-concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Team India, on Saturday, beat South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final in Barbados to clinch the T20 World Cup trophy for the second time and first time since 2007. In a game where fortunes swung from one side to another throughout the game, India eventually came out on top.

Batting first, Rohit Sharma-led India started their innings poorly. They lost 3 wickets for just 34 runs inside five overs but eventually managed to recover and post a competitive total of 176/7. The architect of the challenging score was batting stalwart Virat Kohli who scored 76 runs after managing only 75 runs in 7 games before the final. Axar Patel also played a crucial 47-run knock.

In reply, South Africa lost two wickets inside the powerplay too but quickly recovered. At one stage, they were on 151 for 4 after 16 overs and needed only 26 runs from the last 4 overs. However, India's bowlers came up with an outstanding effort to restrict South Africa to 169/8 and powered the team to a memorable win.

A day after the historic win in Barbados, Jay Shah has announced a whopping prize money of Rs 125 crore for Team India. The BCCI secretary took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the news, writing: "I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

"The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement! " added Shah.

Team India's unbeaten run:

Team India won the T20 World Cup 2024 without losing a single game in the competition. In the group stage, they won three of the four games while one was abandoned due to a wet outfield. India defeated Ireland, Pakistan, and USA to qualify for the Super 8s.

In the Super 8s, they thrashed Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia to storm into the last four. In the semifinals, the Rohit Sharma-led side inflicted a heavy 68-run defeat on defending champions England to take India to the final of the T20 World Cup for the first time since 2014.

Meanwhile, India have become the first Asian country to win the T20 World Cup twice. Overall, they have become the third team after England and West Indies to achieve the incredible feat.
