The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a big change to the India national cricket team's support staff. BCCI has shown the door to T Dilip and appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the new fielding coach of the Indian team with immediate effect.
The announcement comes after the BCCI reviewed India's recent fielding performances across formats. BCCI was not happy with the team's fielding standards and decided not to extend T Dilip's contract after it finished with the recent England tour. BCCI sacks T Dilip, appoints Subhadeep Ghosh as India's new fielding coach
There were already speculations that T Dilip wouldn’t get the extension to his role as India’s fielding coach after the team’s poor performances since he rejoined the side last year. And now a Times of India journalist revealed that the BCCI has sacked Dilip as the fielding coach.
He further revealed that Subhadeep Ghosh, a former Assam and Railways player, has been handed the position by the BCCI, with the official announcement expected soon. With Subhadeep Ghosh taking charge, the BCCI hopes to improve India's fielding as the team heads to a busy international season.
The new fielding coach’s first assignment will be the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, where India will play two WTC Tests in August. Interestingly, India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has resigned from his position after his two-year contract with the BCCI ended with the England tour.

Who is Subhadeep Ghosh?
Subhadeep Ghosh is not a new face in Indian cricket. Ghosh represented Assam and Railways in domestic cricket during the 1990s and early 2000s in 17 First-Class matches and 17 List A matches. He was a right-handed batter and also a handy off-spinner.
After his retirement, Ghosh shifted his focus towards coaching and became a fielding specialist. Over the years, he worked with several teams and earned praise for improving players' fielding standards.
One of the biggest achievements in his coaching career came with the India Under-19 men's team. As the fielding coach, he helped young players improve their skills and played an important role in their successful 2026 Under-19 World Cup title triumph.
Ghosh also served as the fielding coach of the India women's cricket team. He also worked in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Delhi Capitals as a specialist fielding coach.
BCCI announced Test squad for Sri Lanka Tests
Earlier, the BCCI announced the squad for the Sri Lanka Tests. Uncapped 33-year-old all-rounder Saransh Jain has received his first Test call-up for India's two-match series against Sri Lanka after Washington Sundar was ruled out of the first Test with a hamstring injury.
Ravindra Jadeja returned to the squad after being rested for the recent assignments. Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan have been selected subject to fitness clearance, while Nitish Kumar Reddy misses out as he continues his rehabilitation.
