The controversy surrounding the Asia Cup 2025 final refuses to die down. It has been nearly six weeks since India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final on September 28, yet the Indian cricket team has not received the winner’s trophy.

The bizarre situation unfolded when the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian cricket team declined to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief and Pakistan’s Interior Minister.

BCCI to target Mohsin Naqvi over Asia Cup trophy drama at the ICC meeting

The India side wanted to receive the trophy from either the Emirates Cricket Board officials or any of the ACC officials, but Mohsin Naqvi was adamant about getting the honor. The incident left fans and officials stunned as the Indian players waited on stage before Naqvi left the venue with the trophy.

According to the latest reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to raise the issue during the upcoming ICC Board meeting in Dubai this week.

The BCCI is expected to question Naqvi’s behavior during the post-match ceremony and also challenge his eligibility to hold dual positions as Pakistan’s Interior Minister and the ACC head.

BCCI set to challenge Mohsin Naqvi’s dual role at ICC Board Meeting

The Indian cricket board reportedly believes this dual role breaches ICC’s governance norms. As reported by Telecom Asia Sport, the BCCI has “compiled a list of charges against Naqvi and intends to challenge his eligibility to hold dual public and sporting offices.”

The report further suggests that the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is likely to support India’s stance. Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have also deteriorated following a reported military strike that allegedly killed three domestic players.

The incident led to Afghanistan withdrawing from a scheduled tri-series in Pakistan, further straining ties between the ACB and PCB.

Another report in IANS stated, “Friday is when all board heads will be meeting in the ICC Board Meeting, and the Asia Cup trophy handover issue—still in limbo—will be raised there by the BCCI. As of now, nothing has emerged on the trophy handover despite a formal letter written to the ACC.”

Mohsin Naqvi to miss ICC meeting; PCB COO Sameer Ahmed Syed to represent Pakistan

On the other hand, Mohsin Naqvi will not attend Friday’s ICC Board meeting in Dubai. Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, will stay in Islamabad to take part in a Senate session where the 27th Constitutional Amendment is expected to be discussed and approved.

In his place, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed Syed will represent Pakistan at the ICC meeting. Reports suggest that Naqvi is unlikely to join, even through a video link.

Earlier, the BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board will officially bring up the issue of the delayed Asia Cup 2025 trophy handover during the upcoming ICC quarterly meetings. BCCI had already sent a formal letter to the ACC about the matter ten days before the ICC’s quarterly meetings, demanding an explanation over the delay in the official trophy handover.
