Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is set to return to domestic cricket after being left out of the squad for the three-match ODI series in Australia. The left-arm spinner will represent Saurashtra in their upcoming Ranji Trophy clash against Madhya Pradesh, scheduled to be played in Rajkot from October 25.

Jadeja missed out on selection for India’s tour of Australia, as the team management opted for all-rounders Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. However, the selectors made it clear that Jadeja can still be an important player in India’s ODI setup. Notably, Jadeja had announced his retirement from T20 internationals.

The experienced spinner played a crucial role in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where he took five wickets and contributed 27 runs, helping India secure the title.

Ravindra Jadeja Set to Play for Saurashtra in Ranji Trophy 2025-26

According to a report by the Times of India, Ravindra Jadeja will represent Saurashtra in their second-round Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh. The all-rounder will use the opportunity to gain match practice ahead of India’s upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa.

Saurashtra Cricket Association president Jaydev Shah confirmed Jadeja’s participation. With the selectors testing young left-arm spinners such as Harsh Dubey and Manav Suthar in the India A series against South Africa A, Jadeja will feature in the domestic red-ball tournament.

"He informed us that he will play for Saurashtra in this round of the Ranji Trophy. He has always been keen to play for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy," Saurashtra Cricket Association president Jaydev Shah told TOI on Thursday.

Ravindra Jadeja Plays Regularly for Saurashtra in Ranji Trophy

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has emphasized that players should participate in domestic cricket for their state teams whenever they are fit and not engaged in national or India A duties.

Ravindra Jadeja has consistently represented Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy. The 36-year-old left-arm spinner claimed 12 wickets in just two matches last season, including an impressive 7 for 38.

In first-class cricket, Jadeja has taken 569 wickets at an average of 24.20 and scored 8,143 runs at 45.49, including 14 centuries and two triple hundreds.

Jadeja also starred in India’s innings-and-140-run victory over the West Indies in the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium. He scored an unbeaten 104 and took 4 wickets for 54 runs in the second innings.

Ravindra Jadeja for Team India in the ICC ODI World Cup 2027?

Ravindra Jadeja stated that he was not surprised by the omission and added that the team management maintained clear communication. The 36-year-old all-rounder retired from T20Is after India’s World Cup victory last year but remains determined to be part of the 2027 ODI World Cup squad.

Jadeja stated that selection decisions are beyond his control but confirmed he wants to continue playing for India. "Selection is not in my hands. I want to play, for sure," Jadeja said at his press conference after the second day's play against the West Indies in the Delhi Test.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Jadeja’s exclusion was tactical. The management opted for only one left-arm spinner in the series, choosing Washington Sundar for his batting depth and Kuldeep Yadav for wrist-spin variety.

“Right now, we could only take one left-arm spinner for the Australia series. It wasn’t possible to fit in two. Ravindra Jadeja is absolutely in our plans — everyone knows how good he is and what he offers as an all-rounder and a fielder," Agarkar stated.
