The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) are uncertain about M. Chinnaswamy Stadium hosting the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup. According to the latest reports, the KSCA is still waiting for state government approval to stage matches at the venue in Bengaluru.

The 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup will be played in India from September 30 to November 2. A total of eight teams will compete for the coveted title. The iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was allocated four matches when the schedule was announced by the International Cricket Council in June.

Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 Matches Could Be Shifted from Bengaluru

Bengaluru is set to host the tournament opener between India and Sri Lanka. The venue will host the final if Pakistan fail to qualify. However, the venue’s matches are in doubt.

According to a report in Cricbuzz on Thursday, the KSCA has yet to secure state government clearance following a fatal stampede during RCB’s IPL celebrations.

“The uncertainty is in view of the tragic stampede in June when 11 fans died as Royal Challengers Bengaluru were celebrating their IPL success," the report read

"The matter has since gone to the courts, and the state government has not yet given permission for the matches. The KSCA has shifted the Maharaja Cup T20 tournament from the city to Mysuru and is awaiting a nod on the Women’s World Cup," the report added.

KSCA Hopeful of Hosting World Cup Matches Despite Clearance Delays

The stampede took place during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory parade in June, claiming 11 lives and injuring over 50 people. Following the incident, the KSCA had to move the Maharaja Cup T20 tournament from Chinnaswamy Stadium to Mysuru.

Organizers are still optimistic about Bengaluru keeping its matches, but continued delays in clearance may push the BCCI and ICC to shift games to other venues to prevent logistical issues.

"We've written to the State Government and are awaiting a response. It's not as if they've denied permission," a KSCA official was quoted by the website.

"If that were the policy, they wouldn't have allowed the Maharaja Cup in Mysuru. So, we're waiting. There is some more time for this and we're going step by step."

Bengaluru Set for Key Clashes in 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup

Following the series opener between India and Sri Lanka, Bengaluru will host three more fixtures in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup. England will face South Africa on October 3, followed by a group match between India and Bangladesh on October 26 and the second semifinal on October 30.

Apart from Bengaluru, matches will be played across four other venues: Guwahati, Indore, Visakhapatnam, and Colombo. These cities will provide the stage for a thrilling and high-intensity tournament.

India, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Pakistan will compete in the event. A total of 31 matches are scheduled, including 28 league games, two semifinals, and the grand final on November 2.
