India Under-19 and Bengal cricketer, Rohit Yadav, has been banned for two years by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on an immediate basis, as the board has observed changes in his date of birth on his Aadhaar Card multiple times.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) conducted an age verification process as per BCCI's directives. CAB informed the BCCI about a possible age fraud case when it spotted multiple red flags in Rohit Yadav's date of birth.
Who is Rohit Yadav?
Spinner Rohit Yadav is among the cricketers who started to climb the ladder in quick time. From the cricket ecosystem of Bengal to the age-group Indian cricket team, Rohit was impressive during his stints in domestic matches as well as the Indian cricket team.
Recently, he travelled to Sri Lanka with the India U-19 team, and following that, the board named him the emerging spinner for the junior cricket team's upcoming series against Australia at home.
The India U-19 cricket team is scheduled to face the Australia U-19 cricket team in Rajkot. Rohit was selected for the series as well. The leg-spinner impressed everyone with his bowling skills, taking 6 wickets in Sri Lanka in a Youth Test against Sri Lanka U-19.
Multiple updates in Aadhaar card suggest lack of transparency in date of birth
When everything seemed to be going fine for Rohit, the update on August 3 arrived out of nowhere. According to a Sportstar report, BCCI has decided to impose a two-year ban on Rohit with ‘immediate effect,’ and all the affiliated state units have been informed about the same.
The board, in its investigation, has identified inconsistencies in the date of birth of the cricketer. The current situation is that there is no concrete evidence on Yadav's actual date of birth.
According to the media report, when Rohit Yadav was first registered as a CAB cricketer, his date of birth was shown as July 7, 2007, with his address listed in Uttar Pradesh. From 2007 to 2024, there were multiple occasions when his date of birth was changed.
In a 2017 Aadhaar update, the date of birth was changed to 2006, which continued till 2020. In 2021, there was again a change in the year of his birth. This time, it was changed from 2006 to 2009. Additionally, his address had also been updated in the meantime. Originally hailing from Uttar Pradesh, he has moved to Howrah, West Bengal.
BCCI to name the replacement of Rohit Yadav soon for India U-19 team
On this occasion, the association wants details report on the incident. On the other hand, because of the inconsistency in the personal updates, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is likely to name a replacement in the India U-19 team for the series against Australia. The board is expected to announce the replacement soon.
Sportstar, in the report, rt further mentioned that they tried to get reactions from Rohit Yadav, but the cricketer was unavailable for comment.
