BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia opens up about the speculations on the Director of Cricket position. Ahead of the board's meeting to review he team's recent performance, it was rumoured that the Board of Control for Cricket in India could offer their former India cricketer VVS Laxman a new role.

VVS Laxman continues to grab the headlines as the head of the head of the Center of Excellence (CoE). Recently, multiple first-team players had to visit the CoE in Bengaluru because of injury reasons. Under the observation of VVS Laxman and his support staff, the players get the opportunity to polish their skills. Over the years, the CoE becomes on of the main lifelines for the Indian cricket teams.

No Director of Cricket role for VVS Laxman?

A few claims across social media platforms claimed the BCCI officials might offer VVS Laxman a fresh role, bigger than his present job at CoE. However, on August 3, the claims proved wrong as the BCCI secretary stated that they have no such plans to introduce a Director of Cricket.

"No such plans to have a director of cricket," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia says, according to an 'X' post shared by Rasesh Mandan, a Hindustan Times journalist.

Lack of communication between VVS Laxman's CoE and the Indian cricket team?

Saikia confronted the media after the high-profile meeting to inform them about their ultimate goal, which is the World Cup. To gain success from the flagship event, the board wants to take all kinds of measures, including sorting out the ongoing injury issues.

He said that there were rumours about a lack of communication between CoE and the Indian cricket team, but nothing such was reflected in the meeting.

"And what we are going to do in the upcoming series is pass the World Cup, which is our ultimate goal," Devajit Saikia said.

"Coming back to the COE, there seems to be an impression about possible communication breakdown or some issues between COE and the team management. We don't see that kind of situation in us," he added.

BCCI to take measures to reduce injuries

Devajit Saikia further clarified that there were no communication issues between the Center of Excellence and any of the staff of the India National Cricket Team. The main issues that forced the officials to think were the constant injuries of the players. Saikia stated that they will have to make decisions to protect the players from injuries.

"And there is no such situation where there is a communication breakdown, or there is no integrity among the COE or the Team India staff or technical personnel. There is no such situation," the board secretary informed.

"The only thing is that what is troubling us is the injuries to some players, which are happening frequently. And to avoid that, we have to do certain things. We have to take some measures so that the players do not suffer injuries," he continued.
