Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Shimron Hetmyer has been fined following the match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 qualifier 2. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) punished Shimron Hetmyer for breaching the code of conduct in the recent match.

The Rajasthan Royals suffered a heartbreaking 36-run loss against SunRisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, May 24. The Jaipur-based team failed to chase down 176 runs in the do-or-die match. The Royals failed to advance to the summit clash in the ongoing season.

Shimron Hetmyer Fined 10 percent of his Match Fees

Shimron Hetmyer was fined 10% of his match fees for a Level 1 offense under the IPL Code of Conduct. The left-handed batter smashed the stumps in frustration after his dismissal during the run chase. The southpaw accepted the Match Referee's sanction, bringing the matter to a swift resolution.

The West Indies batter struggled to score against SunRisers Hyderabad left-arm spinner Abhishek Sharma. He managed to score just four runs off 10 balls before being cleaned up by Abhishek Sharma. The 27-year-old batter attempted to hit the stumps with his bat before walking back to the pavilion.

“Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 24,” BCCI said.

“Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” BCCI added.

Following the dismissal of Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel made a valiant effort. Rovman Powell scored just six runs off 12 balls before being dismissed by T Natarajan. Jurel remained unbeaten on 56 runs off 35 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. RR's IPL 2024 campaign ended, and SRH advanced to the final.

Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma were instrumental in restricting the Rajasthan Royals. Shahbaz took three wickets for 23 runs, while Abhishek secured two wickets for 24 runs. Pat Cummins and T Natarajan picked up one wicket each. Shahbaz was named 'Player of the Match' for his contributions.

Earlier, SunRisers Hyderabad set a target of 175 after being asked to bat first. Heinrich Klaasen scored a crucial half-century, while Travis Head (34) and Rahul Tripathi (37) chipped in with useful contributions. Trent Boult and Avesh Khan each took three wickets, and Sandeep Sharma took two wickets.
