Ravi Shastri’s tenure as India head coach ends after the T20 Worldcup and the management have been approaching the big names like Rahul Dravid off late for taking up the position. Rahul Dravid had already helped the management by traveling with the Indian limited-overs side for the Sri Lanka tour.

However, he has turned down the offer for a long-term role and he wishes to stay as the head coach at NCA where he has been grooming youngsters. This has delayed the search for the next Indian head coach and the management is likely to stick in with an interim coach until they find a better-suited one.

BCCI Looking For More Of A Tactical Coach

Ravi Shastri was more of a man-management coach and BCCI is looking for a coach who sees the tactical side of things clearly. Anil Kumble is a name that has been discussed often however, that is unlikely to happen with Virat Kohli likely to stay as the test skipper. The official has told that the next two years are big for Indian cricket and hence, the search will be a long one.

“There are back-to-back IPL events, which is making it complicated. The board has few names in mind and if they show interest, then the process will start. We don’t want to be in a position where we have only limited options to pick,” A Board official told New Indian Express

Interim Coach For Time Being

There isn’t any clarity on the BCCI’s process of selecting the next Indian head coach but the process is unlikely to get done any sooner. For time being, Rahul Dravid has already acted as the interim coach and there are contenders who can do the job temporarily until they find the big one. The next series will be against New Zealand for India on 17 November.
