BCCI Offers 80% Revenue Share To WIPL Teams In First 5 Years From 2023-27

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have issued an invitation to interested parties for franchise ownership in the inaugural Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL), which is set to be played in March. Franchises will receive a major portion of the revenue from the BCCI in the first five years of the competition.

The teams are expected to be sold on January 25, and the deadline to submit their bids is January 21. According to the reports, Men’s IPL franchises Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Delhi Capitals (DC), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have expressed their interest in buying a team for the tournament.

According to Cricbuzz, the BCCI have provided WIPL franchisees with a lucrative 80-20 revenue share scheme for the first five years. The WIPL franchises’ Invitation to Tender (ITT) states that the formula will gradually change to 60-40 over the next five years, from 2027 to 2032. However, from 2033, the franchises and the BCCI will share the profits equally.

“Please note that, at this stage of the process, BCCI will only deal directly with the State Associations and at no time will have any communication with player agents or managers. Any failure by a player to abide by this condition will (unless BCCI in its sole discretion decides otherwise) result in the player’s name being withdrawn with immediate effect from the Auction Register and/or Auction List (as appropriate),” a BCCI communique said, reported Cricbuzz.

The report also stated that the base price slabs for the capped players will be Rs 50 lakh, Rs 40 lakh, and Rs 30 lakh. The base price slabs will be Rs. 20 lakh and Rs. 10 lakh for the uncapped players. The league will start out with five teams, and the auction is scheduled to take place in February.
