The India National Cricket Team opener Abhishek Sharma has been away from international cricket, but he continues to play cricket, as he recently played in the Punjab State Inter District Senior One Day Limited Overs Tournament 2026-27 match. He was playing for Amritsar Men’s Senior against Taran Taran, where he went berserk, scoring 233 runs in the match.
Abhishek Sharma has played the majority of his age-group cricket in Punjab; as a local boy, he has been playing in local tournaments, which also gives him some quality batting and crowd attraction to the tournament, as he comes from Amritsar, and that is the reason he represents the side in the Inter District league.

Abhishek Sharma displayed his talent, which is why he was the former No.1 T20I batter in the world; he scored 233 runs in just 91 balls, smacking 15 fours and 25 sixes on Sunday (August 2). This innings might surely boost his confidence with the kind of recent form he has been going through in international cricket.
Despite other cricketers being on break, Abhishek keeps himself busy playing cricket, which showcases his focus, determination and love for the game. The team’s score was scored 533/8 in 50 overs, with Abhishek Sharma scoring 233 and Abhay Chaudhary scoring 91.

He was the first batter to be removed. On the fourth ball of the 25th over, Ashish Lowrance dismissed him. If Abhishek keeps scoring runs in the local tournament, he will surely get some time to get back to his original form.
Apart from the Southpaw, his Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) teammate, wicketkeeper-batter Salil Arora, was also part of Amritsar’s playing XI. He scored 29 runs off 18 balls while batting at No. 4.
Abhishek Sharma's recent form
Abhishek has been going through a rough patch since the 2026 T20 World Cup, as he just managed to score one fifty in the whole tournament, which came in the final against the New Zealand side. He had an average of 18 in the tournament and failed to open his scoring books in three consecutive matches.
Abhishek then had a tough start to the Ireland series as he scored one fifty in the two-match series but could not win the match for the Men in Blue. In the England series, he also failed to create much impact, and in the Zimbabwe series, he had scores of 1,8 and 2 runs in the series.
He failed to open his account in 23 innings this year. The 25-year-old was the top-ranked T201 batter in the world last year, with an astounding 42.95 at a strike rate of over 193 in 21 games. But he was replaced by his team, SRH, and India teammate Ishan Kishan.
Abhishek Sharma will be looking to get back to his form in the next T20I series, where the Men in Blue side takes on the West Indies for a five-match T20I series, which is scheduled to take place from October 6.
