Former India wicket-keeper batter Deep Dasgupta has shared his views on Abhishek Sharma’s poor form. The Southpaw has been struggling to score runs in recent times. In the last three matches, he failed to score many runs against Zimbabwe, despite India defeating the home side 3-0 in the T20I series, as he was the only one who did not get runs.
Deep Dasgupta has brushed aside all the concerns growing over Abhishek Sharma’s current form, as he believes it is not a concern, as he failed in just three matches. The No.2 T20I batter scored 11 runs in three innings, which has been absolutely awful with an average of 3.66. In the last 6 innings, he has scored 40 runs with four single-digit scores.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Deep Dasgupta stated that the poor form of Abhishek Sharma has been exaggerated, but there is a small concern; it has not reached a stage where the Southpaw should be worried about being dropped. He has been an excellent batter in the T20I format for the Men in Blue side.
"It is being slightly exaggerated but there is no denying that it is a concern. It hasn't reached the worrying stage yet. But he has to work on one thing. He has great bat flow when he is playing shots down the ground. But this up and down bat flow becomes a problem to the back of a length deliveries. Converting the vertical bat swing for horizontal shots becomes a challenge."
Deep Dasgupta points out on Abhishek Sharma's problem with short balls
Abhishek Sharma also failed in the T20 World Cup 2026 as he scored just one fifty in the entire tournament with his average under 18 and was out for three ducks, but he was backed by the team management, and he performed in the final. He failed to open the score in 23 innings this year.
"If at all he's getting stuck, it's off that particular length that he's struggling with. So he has to work on his bat swing and his hands. But it's a tricky situation as it can make you double-minded on potentially losing the brilliant down swing in trying to improve elsewhere."
When does Abhishek Sharma next play for India?
Deep Dasgupta also pointed out Abhishek's issues with similar short-of-length deliveries, as he believes that getting out on those balls has been more concerning. The 25-year-old was the top-ranked T201 batter in the world last year, with an astounding 42.95 at a strike rate of over 193 in 21 games.
"Runs not coming isn't the issue. He's such a good player that if not now, the runs will eventually come. But the identical mode of dismissals that he is encountering is a bigger problem than just not scoring in a few matches," said Dasgupta.
Abhishek will next be in action in the upcoming series against West Indies, as India will play a two-match Test series before that against Sri Lanka in August, and later in September they take on the Windies in a white-ball series.
