BCCI officially begins hunt for new coaches amid Morne Morkel, Ryan ten Doeschate sacking buzz

In a big step towards revolutionizing the development system of Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced three prestigious full-time positions at its Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru on Thursday, August 7.
The BCCI wants to strengthen the future of Indian cricket through top-tier coaching, advanced sports education, and cutting-edge science-backed training, for which they invited applications for three big roles. The board made this announcement on its official website on Thursday.
BCCI invites applications for three key roles at the Centre of Excellence
The three positions are Resident Faculty for Batting, Resident Faculty for Bowling, and Head of Sports Science and Medicine.

All three roles are designed to directly contribute to India’s growing cricket ecosystem and are expected to work closely with national and regional teams, guiding upcoming talent and helping shape India’s next generation of players and coaches.
Role and Eligibility for Resident Faculty – Batting
The responsibility of the Resident Faculty – Batting will be to focus on delivering BCCI’s national coach education programs from Level 0 to Level 3. The selected candidate will “contribute to the development of course content, manage assessments, provide hands-on mentoring, and track coach development progress.” The role also includes handling online learning systems and working closely with zonal coaches.
Applicants for the role of the Resident Faculty – Batting must be former first-class or international cricketers, preferably with BCCI Level-2 or Level-3 certification. He should also have at least five years of coaching experience at the state or elite youth level. Proficiency with performance analysis and digital learning platforms is also required to apply for the job.
Role and Eligibility for Resident Faculty – Bowling
Similarly, the Resident Faculty–Bowling position will have the same responsibilities but with a dedicated focus on bowling. The selected coach will be in charge of running BCCI’s certification coaching courses, helping in curriculum development, checking the progress of other coaches, and guiding them, with a focus on bowling.
To apply for this position, the candidate must be an experienced first-class or international cricketer with at least 5 years’ coaching experience with elite teams. Candidates with certified BCCI Level-2 or Level-3 coaches are preferred for the role. Additionally, they will also need to have familiarity with LMS tools, coach development systems, and performance tracking software.

Role and Eligibility for Head – Sports Science and Medicine
Meanwhile, the most high-profile of the three roles is the Head of Sports Science and Medicine. This position is created with an aim to revolutionize player development and injury management. The selected candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team, ensure strategic performance planning, injury prevention and rehabilitation oversight, athlete development, and integration of sports science services across national teams and the COE.
The role will also involve working with international institutes to promote research and new ideas. For this position, candidates must hold a master’s degree (a doctorate is preferred) in sports science or related fields, as well as have at least five years of experience in managing multidisciplinary performance teams.
Apart from having proven experience in high-performance sport environments, the candidates must also have a strong background in athlete development, clinical governance, and strategic planning for the role of Head of Sports Science and Medicine at the BCCI’s COE.
BCCI sets August 20 deadline for top roles at COE
The deadline to apply is 5:00 PM IST on August 20, 2025, and the applicants must be below 60 years of age at the time of applying. After the initial screening, shortlisted candidates will be invited for personal interviews, and these positions are based at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
