BCCI Pondering Over Hosting Day-Night Test Between IND v SL In Bengaluru- Reports
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering organizing this year’s day-night pink-ball Test against Sri Lanka at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
There is still the likely possibility of having limited crowds at the venue due to a large number of covid-19 cases. As per the report in TOI, it is also possible that the T20Is will be played first for convenience purposes.
Both teams will play T20Is before Sri Lanka arrives for the tour and this allows a smoother bubble-to-bubble transfer. The first Test is scheduled in Bengaluru but the apex board will decide in the coming days if it can be made a day-night Test.
“Final call to tweak the schedule will be taken soon” – BCCI source
For now, the schedule sees the players play the two Tests in Bengaluru and Mohali before playing the T20Is in Mohali, Dharamshala, and Lucknow. To cut down on the amount of travelling, the board is considering playing most of the games in Mohali and Dharamshala.
“There is a chance that the first two T20Is to start the tour will be played in Dharamshala before the series moves to Mohali for the third T20I and the first Test. Lucknow may miss out on hosting a T20I.”
“Having the pink ball Test in Mohali is difficult since dew is expected to play a big role. However, BCCI is still monitoring the covid-19 situation in the country. A final call to tweak the schedule will be taken soon,” a source from the BCCI said.
The first Test in Bengaluru will also be Virat Kohli‘s 100th Test match.
