The India National Cricket Team have been in Sri Lanka playing a two-match Test series. Amidst this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have opened up multiple positions for the Junior Cricket Committee. This announcement comes after the board reportedly opened applications as it searches for a new title sponsor for the forthcoming home season, with IDFC’s tenure set to end.

The board have sought five positions on its Junior Cricket Committee. The newest members of the Junior Cricket Committee will be responsible for picking age-group teams up to Under-22 for coaching camps, as well as for India’s junior fixtures against domestic and international opponents. They will also develop the talent pool and bench strength for India’s junior teams.

BCCI seeks new members for junior team

The BCCI mentioned that they will have to take responsibility for selecting the best possible age-group teams up to Under-22 in a fair and transparent manner, while identifying talent and developing a strong bench strength for India’s junior teams.

They will be scouting and assessing players through domestic and international matches and contributing to the selection and development of teams for coaching camps, tours and tournaments in India and overseas.

They will also conduct checks before deciding and selecting coaches and support staff for the respective teams, including physiotherapists, trainers, therapists, analysts and medics. Their roles will include overseeing the performance and development of junior teams, preparing periodic evaluation reports, and appointing captains across formats.

The new members will organise and conduct BCCI junior tournaments and overseas junior tours while addressing matters relating to the conduct and administration of junior tournaments. They will also have to promote strong ethical values among young cricketers, including awareness of issues such as drugs, betting and match-fixing, through interactions with senior and former players.

What are the selection criteria to work for the BCCI junior team?

The selection criteria for qualifications and experience are that the applicant must be a former player who has played a minimum of 25 First-Class matches and has retired from the game at least 5 years previously.

Any person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee, as defined in the Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations of the BCCI, for a total period of five years will not be able to become a member of the Junior Cricket Committee.

Candidates eligible for the positions must submit their applications by 5:00 PM IST on September 5, 2026. After the assessment and shortlisting procedure, the selected candidates will be invited to personal interviews for further evaluation, and then the final five people will be selected.

BCCI looks for new title sponsor

Apart from the selection of junior team members, the board is also opening up a tender for the bidding process for the forthcoming season for the title sponsor. They are looking for a new title sponsor for the new season, with IDFC’s tenure coming to an end in August 2026. Before the white-ball series against West Indies, they are seeking new sponsors.

To date, as per reports, they have not received any bids, and the other was that the bids they received from the bidders did not meet the expectations of the board, so the title sponsorship is still not finalized.
