Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan have been inducted into BCCI’s central contract after fulfilling the criteria of playing three Tests in the current season. Both players made their debut in the recently concluded five-match Test series between India and England.

With Ishan Kishan sidelined Dhruv Jurel earned a surprise call-up from the Test team. On the other hand, Sarfaraz Khan was not a part of the original squad but was called up before the second Test after injury ruled KL Rahul out of the game.

Both the players grabbed the opportunity with both hands as they impressed with the bat. Both of them made their Test debuts in the third Test played in Rajkot. While Sarfaraz Khan scored half-centuries in both the innings of the game, Dhruv Jurel scored 46 in the first innings.

In the fourth Test in Ranchi, the wicketkeeper-batsman starred with the bat, playing knocks of 90 and 39* to bail India out of trouble and power them to a series-clinching win. Dhruv Jurel was adjudged the Player of the Match for his impressive displays. In the fifth Test, Sarfaraz Khan scored another fifty as India sealed the series 4-1.

Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan earn BCCI central contracts:

With Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan playing three Tests in the series, they have been handed central contracts by the BCCI. Both the players have been inducted into Group C of BCCI’s central contract with an annual retainership fee of INR 1 crore. Their names were ratified during the BCCI Apex Council meeting which was held on Monday (March 18), according to Hindustan Times.

During the same meeting, the BCCI officials also discussed the Ranji Trophy schedule for the next season. The report further stated that the BCCI is unlikely to schedule any matches in the northern part of the country during December and January to stop the games from getting interrupted due to fog and bad light.

“No decision has been taken yet but the Ranji Trophy, like earlier years could start from mid or end of October after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which serves as an IPL auction platform. Some states are losing crucial points in do-or-die games because of inclement weather from mid-December to mid-February,” a senior BCCI source told PTI.
