India National Cricket Team took on Zimbabwe in the first game of the five-match series. The match between the two teams took place at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Saturday (6th June).

Team India were led by young Shubman Gill and the team had a lot of youngsters in it. The players who performed in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have been provided with opportunities and it will be a great platform for them to take the baton from the senior players.

Since the senior players were part of the T20 World Cup 2024, some fresh faces were included in the team. The Indian team led by Shubman Gill wore a similar jersey that was donned by the Indian team in the tournament but one thing caught the attention of many.

The jersey that the Shubman Gill-led side was wearing in the first T20I match against Zimbabwe had only one star on it. The stars on a team's jersey depict the number of times they have won the T20 World Cup. India achieved the feat twice in 2007 and 2024.

The reason behind the Indian jersey having only one star on it has now been revealed. It is because the Shubman Gill-led side left for Zimbabwe before the final of the tournament and hence the jersey with two starts wasn’t designed till then.

The jersey with two stars was later revealed by Sanju Samson after the Indian team came back from the Carribean. The Rohit Sharma-led side won the final by 7 runs against South Africa and ended the 11-year-long drought of the ICC title.

India were magnificent throughout the tournament with bat and ball. They were undefeated in the tournament as they became the first team to win the T20 World Cup without losing a single game.

Zimbabwe win the first T20I against India by 13 runs

Coming to the game between India and Zimbabwe, the hosts won the first game by a margin of 13 runs. It was a poor outing for Shubman Gill on his captaincy debut as the team had a terrible outing with the bat.

India had a decent outing with the ball as they restricted Zimbabwe to a total of 115 runs. It was expected that it would be an easy chase for the visitors but it wasn’t the case as the host's bowlers bowled their hearts out and troubled the Indian batters.

Shubman Gill was the only batter who looked settled on the crease while chasing. The opening batter scored 31 runs while the rest of the batters struggled to get going. They lost 9 wickets quickly and the Indian hopes relied on the all-rounder Washington Sundar.

Sundar (27) gave his best for the team and held the one end but he didn’t get the support. The all-rounder took the game to the last over but couldn’t take the team home as Zimbabwe bundled out India for 102 runs to win the game by 13 runs
