After India’s humiliating loss to England in the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, it was believed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would make significant changes to the way national teams were managed.

Following the revelation that the selection committee was fired as a result of India’s dismal performance, insiders have disclosed that the BCCI has a new strategy for the T20I and ODI teams, namely a separate squad for each format.

India’s calendar is jam-packed, beginning with the home season on January 3.

While there is much speculation over Rohit Sharma’s future as T20I captain and Hardik Pandya’s ascension, the way the BCCI operates suggests that no decision will be made and that a silent phase-out process will be followed.

India plays 12 white ball matches in 29 days between January 3 and February 1, including six against New Zealand and six against Sri Lanka.

Six ODIs and six T20Is are being played in 12 separate cities, which means 12 different flights. While travel is an underappreciated component of workload management, it is predicted that the titles of T20Is and ODIs will be at least 75 to 80 percent different.

BCCI has never worked as per public sentiments:

The ODI squad may include players who the team management believes will play in the 2023 edition.

“Why do you feel the need to announce Rohit’s departure as T20I captain? T20Is the primary priority in 2023?  No. BCCI has never worked as per public sentiments. It operates in its own manner “explained a BCCI veteran.

“But yes, you can easily ask Rohit, Virat, and KL Rahul to focus on ODIs and Test series against Australia which are more important for the time being, and let Hardik lead in the six T20Is,” said a BCCI old-timer.

This decision comes as the ICC ODI World Cup is set to be held in India in 2023.
