India batter Shreyas Iyer didn’t take field on the Day 4 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-24 final between Mumbai and Vidarbha. As per the Mumbai team manager, the batter experienced back pain and wasn’t fit enough to take the field.
Shreyas Iyer has become the hot soup in India cricket. Ever since he has been terminated from the BCCI’s annual contract, he has been in the news. The batter was axed from the contract because he didn’t agree to play in the Ranji Trophy and that didn’t go well with the governing body.
After getting dropped from the last three Tests against England, Shreyas Iyer was told by the BCCI and the team management to play in the Ranji Trophy. The batter didn’t play as he said that he was having discomfort in his back. But NCA gave him a clear chit and told BCCI that he had no issues.
Shreyas Iyer then was seen attending pre-season camp with Kolkata Knight Riders ahead and this irked BCCI which saw them removing the batter from the annual contract. There then emerged a few reports that revealed the other side of the story, favoring the batter.
The reports claimed that Shreyas Iyer has been facing back pain since the ICC World Cup 2023 and he took painkillers during the event to be available for all the games. The right-hander then went to KKR camp to increase his workload as back pain has been troubling him for a while now.
With Shreyas Iyer missing Day 4 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-24 final between Mumbai and Vidarbha, it makes many believe that the reports favoring batters were true. The batter was the backbone of the team in the ODIs and the Tests last year. Meanwhile, the Mumbai team manager has told Sportstar that the batter is now fine after facing back pain on Day 4.
