Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar has been fined for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians (MI). Rajat Patidar was slapped with a fine of ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team's recent victory over the Mumbai Indians.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured a thrilling 12-run win over Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on Monday, April 7. The victory was their third of the IPL 2025 season. The Bengaluru-based team lost only one match, which came at home against the Gujarat Titans at the Chinnaswamy Stadium last week.
RCB Skipper Rajat Patidar Fined for Slow Over-Rate
The IPL issued an official statement confirming that Patidar has been fined ₹12 lakh for a slow over-rate. It was RCB’s first offense of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
"Royal Challengers Bengaluru Captain Rajat Patidar has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 21 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai," the IPL statement read.
"As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Patidar was fined INR 12 lakhs."
Before this match, three other IPL 2025 captains had been fined for slow over-rate. Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians), Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals), and Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants) were fined for breaching the Code of Conduct.
Rajat Patidar Named Player of the Match for His Impact
Rajat Patidar scored a blistering 64 off 32 deliveries, including five boundaries and four sixes. He was named Player of the Match, but he credited Krunal Pandya for keeping his nerve in the tense final over. The thrilling win against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede was RCB’s first at the venue in ten years.
Patidar has been a key performer for RCB this season. He has scored 161 runs in four innings—second only to star batter Virat Kohli’s 164. In his first year as captain, he’s injected a bold and aggressive approach into RCB’s batting, which has played a crucial role in their ongoing IPL 2025 campaign so far.
He Was Pretty Smart With That - Sanjay Bangar Lauds Patidar’s Captaincy
Rajat Patidar’s captaincy earned praise following RCB’s win over Mumbai Indians, especially for his tactical decisions under pressure. Ambati Rayudu said that bringing Bhuvneshwar Kumar back to bowl at the end was a “brilliant move” on ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut.
Sanjay Bangar said that Patidar made smart use of his bowlers, particularly his decision to hold Krunal Pandya for the final over instead of the 19th, which would have left Josh Hazlewood with too few runs to defend.
"He was pretty smart with that. To hold back Krunal for the 20th over made absolute sense, because you don't want him to be bowling the 19th over with Josh Hazlewood only having ten or 12 to defend," Sanjay Bangar said.
