Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has dropped some invaluable insights from the BCCI Annual General Meeting, which was held on the 28th of September. The BCCI, to motivate players, has adopted the new ritual of providing them with an INR 1 Crore incentive for having played more than 14 First-Class games.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India finally had its much-awaited Annual General Meeting on Sunday, as it took a final call on several landmark decisions. One of the concerns has surely been the participation of younger players in first-class cricket.
The board has finally reached a unique measure to almost lure cricketers to mandate their physical abilities on the field and features in the domestic games. Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who represented the Punjab Cricket Association, has dropped some massive updates after the meeting concluded.
BCCI takes mammoth measures that might be a game-changer in Indian domestic cricket
The BCCI has looked forward to taking a landmark step in the history of domestic cricket. They are planning to offer financial rewards for players who are willing to participate in more matches in a single domestic season.
“It has been decided that if a player plays more domestic matches in a season, he will get more money. This will be an incentive for teams to reach the finals of domestic tournaments,” Harbhajan told reporters after the meeting.
The former Indian spinner went on to give further details that the bonus, which might be provided to the players, could be significant.
“If a cricketer plays 14 first-class matches a season, he will get an additional match fee of Rs 1 crore,” Harbhajan said, underlining the board's intent to reward consistency and commitment.
Mithun Manhas elected unopposed as new BCCI President
Finally, in their Annual General Meeting, the BCCI has officially appointed Mithun Manhas as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Manhas was elected unopposed; he went on to be the third cricketer, after former Indian stalwarts Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny, to be appointed as the BCCI President.
The 45-year-old Manhas is a former Director of Cricket for the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. The newly formed board includes Rajeev Shukla as vice-president, v, Devajit Saikia as secretary, and A. Raghuram Bhat as treasurer.
Parvez Rasool urges better infrastructure for J&K after Manhas' appointment
For the first time, an official from the Jammu & Kashmir association is going to helm Indian cricket. Mithun Manhas, the former Delhi man, has been appointed for the role. After his appointment, the first Jammu & Kashmir cricketer to play international cricket, Parvez Rasool, demanded better infrastructure for the entire region.
“It’s a proud moment for all of us that Jammu and Kashmir’s representation is going to the BCCI as its president, and that’s a big achievement for us,” Rasool said, speaking to RevSportz.
“We hope that in the future, the cricket infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir will be good. Right now, we are completely behind the other states. Talent-wise, we are good. But talent needs facilities. So, I hope that in the future, things will get better for us.”
“Right now, we have only one ground, and without stands, there’s no place for the spectators,” Rasool lamented. “There’s no good washroom. There’s no academy, and there’s barely any facility. The infrastructure should be built. There should be an academy system — academies in districts. Grounds should be good, and coaches should be appointed. This is our request, not just mine, but of the whole of J&K. Infrastructure makes a player.”
