Former Team India head coach Greg Chappell, who had a fallout with the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly during his tenure, backed former ICC Official Chris Broad, who alleged the BCCI's cover-up for Sourav Ganguly.

A recent controversy stated that Chris Broad could not sanction the then-Indian captain after receiving a call from several higher authorities. During his recent interview with The Telegraph, which went viral on the internet, he made such vile attacks, mentioning the BCCI's growing influence within the ICC.

The senior match referee, who officiated nearly 600+ international games in over 20 years, has been snubbed of his contract, which was not renewed last year.

Greg Chappell has backed Chris Broad over allegations against the BCCI

Former Indian head coach Greg Chappell has backed up Chris Broad for being pressured to be 'lenient' towards the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. The senior match referee, Broad, revealed that a powerful figure had offered to have the ban on the former captain lifted.

He stated that he got a phone call to be lenient against the Indian captain, despite the Indian skipper not accepting any of the hurry-ups.

He had assured that politics was always involved right from the start, and many guys were politically more savvy, while some kept themselves below the radar.

Chappell drags former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya into controversy

While speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Greg Chappell revealed that the former BCCI President, who later went on to be ICC's Chairman, Jagmohan Dalmiya, had made an offer to the Australian asking him to 'organize' something so that Sourav Ganguly could be made available for a tour.

Sourav Ganguly, the Indian skipper, and Jagmohan Dalmiya, the BCCI President, were both associated with the Cricket Association of Bengal, as Chappell stated that Dalmiya offered to have Ganguly's suspension reduced so that he could participate in the tour to Sri Lanka.

“Dalmiya offered to have his suspension reduced so that he could go to Sri Lanka at the start of my tenure,” Chappell said.

“I said no, I don’t want to rort the system; he has to do his time. Dalmiya seemed OK for him to miss," he added.

Know about the incident in detail

It was worth noting that Sourav Ganguly was first fined by Chris Broad after the third ODI between India and Pakistan in Jamshedpur in April 2005. It was during a time when the two archrivals played in bilateral games.

The Prince of Kolkata was then handed a ban for 6 games for having repeated the same offence in the same series. The suspension was then reduced to four games after a formal appeal was lodged supporting the Indian captain.

The Indian skipper was then suspended for two more matches, this time by the former West Indies World Cup-winning captain turned Match Referee Clive Lloyd. Ganguly had committed two such offences within the 12 months.
