Former England captain Michael Vaughan is often found showering praises on players from his nation, while he has actively entangled himself with controversies as he mocks Indian players and fans amid the India vs England test rivalry.

Vaughan recently stepped up to praise the English opener Ben Duckett for his stylish innings of 149, which helped England chase a historic 371 runs, the third-highest chase on English soil.

This was the second-highest total chased in the final innings of the game by England, after they did it back in 2022 at Birmingham.

Ben Duckett was dropped multiple times in both innings of the Headingley test; however, the batter never feared to take on every scoring opportunity.

Duckett scored 62 in the first inning and came back with an even bigger 149 in the fourth inning of play. He was the second-highest scorer in the game after Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant.

Who does Michael Vaughan see as Ben Duckett's contemporaries in world cricket?

Michael Vaughan ranks Ben Duckett above his current contemporaries in world cricket. Very few players in modern times play across all three formats of the game, of which the most renowned names include Australia's Travis Head, South Africa's Aiden Markram, and a few more.

However, Vaughan has acknowledged the Australian and South African all-format cricketers to be of a similar calibre to Ben Duckett.

The England opener undoubtedly has the best form among the three names the former English skipper mentioned. He rated Duckett as one of the best batsmen in the world currently across all three formats.

“He doesn’t get the credit he deserves in this team. Pound for pound, I reckon he is the best all-format batsman in international cricket right now. There may be players who are better at one of the formats, but none of them are as good at all three," an audacious remark written by Vaughan in his column for The Telegraph.

Ben Duckett's ICC Rankings across all three formats

Michael Vaughan clearly depicted how he is impressed by the fearless attitude of the English opener, which he portrayed by reverse-sweeping Ravindra Jadeja several times in the fourth innings.

The 30-year-old English opener made his debut for the Three Lions back in 2016; however, he rose to prominence in recent years. Though the batter seems relatively inexperienced in every format of the game, having played only 34 Tests, 25 ODIs and 20 T20Is.

The batter has been in some form in recent years, scoring 2621, 1176 and 527 runs across the three above-mentioned formats, respectively. He has a great record in first-class cricket with 11,000+ runs and is among the few English batters with a List A double-century.

Ben Duckett currently ranks highest among English players in the ODI format (16), third-highest in T20I rankings (17), and is currently the third-highest-ranked test batter for England as well. He is among the very few players who currently rank within the top 20 on the ICC Rankings of all three formats.

Ben Duckett or Joe Root: Who has more impact on England's Test wins?

England has the current best batter in the world for the longest format of the game under their belt. Joe Root not only ranks 1 in the ICC test rankings but also relishes the position of the best modern batter in the red-ball format.

Root has an immense impact on England's success across the longest format of the game. However, ever since Duckett was brought into the test side, he has emerged as a perfect fit in the 'bazball' setup.

Duckett's ferocious batting style and his adaptation of modern-day test cricket make Ben Duckett one of the most dynamic talents and match-winners in test cricket.

Though both batters might contribute significantly to England's success, if Root is the pillar of the team, then Duckett can easily be said to be the foundation of English wins.
