Ben Stokes Is A Brilliant Leader, He Would Certainly Be A Candidate: Eoin Morgan On England Test Captaincy

England white-ball formats captain Eoin Morgan said all-rounder Ben Stokes would be a certainty for England’s next Test captain’s role. On April 15, Joe Root relinquished the England Test captaincy role after back to back overseas defeats in Australia (early in January) and West Indies (in March).
Stokes, who was Root’s deputy, is touted to take over the captaincy reins from the Yorkshire player. Stokes led England in one Test (vs West Indies in 2020) and three ODIs (vs Pakistan in 2021).
The England all-rounder gave glimpses of his leadership prowess when he helped England to win the 2019 World Cup and level the Ashes 2019 against Australia at home.

Morgan believes Stokes is a brilliant leader and reckoned the all-rounder to be the front-runner for the red-ball captaincy.
“Obviously Ben is a fantastic player, a brilliant leader, though he doesn’t need to have the captain’s armband on to lead like he does,” Morgan told Sky Sports.
“The experience of the (2019) World Cup final here (at Lord’s) really showed his true colours in the way that he led from start to finish — and throughout the whole tournament as well. He’d certainly be a candidate,” said Morgan.
It would be hard to turn down the captaincy: Eoin Morgan
Morgan, who last played his last Test match for England against Pakistan in February 2012, denied any possibility of considering the Test captain’s job for the Three Lions.

“I think it would be hard to turn down the captaincy. It’s a privileged position to be in. Obviously, circumstances have to be right, but most people who want to take red-ball cricket forward would like to take it on,” Morgan said.
Apart from Stokes, senior England pacer Stuart Broad will be in contention for the red-ball leadership. However, Broad doesn’t have any plans of leading England’s Test side as he aims to return back to the Test squad after being dropped for the West Indies series.
