England Test captain Ben Stokes has confirmed he has undergone a successful surgery on his troublesome left knee and is all set to begin his rehab. The star allrounder is in a race against time to be fully fit for England’s challenging tour of India early next year.

On Wednesday (November 29), Ben Stokes took to his social media accounts to give an update on the surgery. The World Cup winner stated that he had been ‘in and out’ of London’s Cromwell Hospital. The surgery was done by renowned knee specialist Andy Williams. Ben Stokes has known Williams for more than a decade now. Ten years ago, Williams had advised the England star not to undergo the knife 10 years ago but to manage discomfort in the joint.

However, the condition of the knee kept deteriorating and Ben Stokes could not even bowl in recent times. He did not bowl a single over in the recently concluded World Cup and played as a specialist batsman. Even in the Ashes earlier this year, he bowled a handful of overs in only the first two Tests.

He was planning to undergo the surgery right after the Ashes but decided to delay it in order to play the World Cup. With the surgery now done, Ben Stokes would be hoping that things improve for him. On Wednesday, he posted a photo of himself standing outside the hospital.

Ben Stokes is in a race against time to be fit for the five-match Test series against Team India. The much-awaited series is scheduled to get underway on January 25 in Hyderabad. It will be his first Test tour of India as a captain. He is yet to lose a Test series as a captain and would be hoping that his unbeaten run extends in India.

During the World Cup, Ben Stokes had made it clear that he has his eyes set firmly on the Test series against India, saying: “I’ve put a lot of hard work in away from cricket to give myself the best chance of a quicker recovery and, with Christmas and everything coming up, the main thing for me is getting this knee right and being ready and raring to go for that Test series in India.”
