The International Cricket Council has revealed the names of the men’s and women’s nominees for the ICC Player of the Month for August 2022. Three players in each category have been nominated for this prestigious award which will be announced shortly.
The three nominees for the Men’s ICC Player Of The Month For August 2022 are England captain Ben Stokes, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, and New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner.
Ben Stokes has been nominated for his all-round show in the second Test against South Africa where broke the back of the South African middle-order with the wickets of Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen as the visitors were knocked over for 151.
He then followed it up with an amazing century helping England take a huge lead of 264 runs and then picked 2 more wickets in Proteas’ second innings to help England win by an innings and square the series 1-1 with one more Test to go.
Sikandar Raza had an amazing outing in ODIs against Bangladesh and India, scoring three centuries in August. He made 135*, 117* against Bangladesh, helping Zimbabwe win the ODI series, and 115 against India to almost take Zimbabwe to a win.
New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner enjoyed a brilliant August 2022 both with the bat and ball in hand and played a crucial role in the Black Caps’ six wins out of eight in the month. In the second T20I against the Netherlands, he blasted 42-ball 77*. He then picked three wickets each in the first two T20Is against West Indies and also played a huge role in the ODI series for which he was adjudged the Player of the Series.
Beth Mooney, Jemimah Rodrigues And Tahlia Mcgrath Nominated For ICC Women’s Player Of The Month For August 2022
The nominees for the women ICC Player of the Month for August 2022 were Australian Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath and India’s Jemimah Rodrigues.
Beth Mooney had a dream in August 2022, which started with a brilliant 70* off 49 balls against Pakistan in Australia’s final Group A game. She followed that up with a patient 29-ball 36 in the semi-final clash against New Zealand. In the Commonwealth Games final, she made 61 off 41 balls that propelled Australia to 161.
Tahlia McGrath is the second gold medallist from the Australian team that makes it to the Player of the Month shortlist for August 2022. She smashed 51-ball 78* and stitched a mammoth 141-run stand with Beth Mooney against Pakistan in a group game and picked three wickets with the ball.
Against New Zealand in the semis, she picked one wicket and made 23-ball 34.
India Jemimah Rodrigues was one of the pillars for the team that went all the way into the finals of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. She ended the tournament fifth on the run-scorers list with 146 runs in five matches.
She made 56* off 46 in India’s crucial clash against Barbados, made 44* off 31 against England in the semis, and made 33 runs against Australia in a close chase, and her wicket proved to be the catalyst that resulted in India’s loss.
